SERVSWITCH™ AFFINITY
9.2 Replacing a Power Supply in a Dual-Powered Affinity
Statistically speaking, the power supplies in a Dual-Powered Affinity chassis are
actually less likely to fail than some of the other components inside the chassis. But
if one of them does fail (see “Your Dual-Powered Affinity is plugged in but its front-
panel LEDs are not all lit” at the end of Section 9.1), here’s what to do:
First get a replacement chassis, set it next to the one with the failed power
supply, and power it up. Then loosen the screws of the Port Cards and Expansion
Cards installed in the old chassis. Pull these cards from the old chassis and insert
them into the matching slots in the new chassis. (Depending on how flexible the
attached cables are, you might need to swap all of the cards at once—essentially
pulling the old chassis away from the cards and sliding the new chassis in around
them, which will require at least two people to do.) The cards should retain their
existing configurations, and the system should recover and resume operating
normally. Finally, call Black Box to arrange to have the old chassis repaired.
9.3 Calling Black Box
If you determine that your ServSwitch Affinity is malfunctioning, do not attempt to
alter or repair the unit. It contains no user-serviceable parts. Contact Black Box
Technical Support at 724-746-5500.
Before you do, make a record of the history of the problem. We will be able to
provide more efficient and accurate assistance if you have a complete description,
including:
• the nature and duration of the problem;
• when the problem occurs;
• the components involved in the problem;
• any particular application that, when used, appears to create the problem or
make it worse; and
• the results of any testing you’ve already done.
9.4 Shipping and Packaging
If you need to transport or ship your ServSwitch Affinity:
• Package it carefully. We recommend that you use the original container.
• If you are shipping the Affinity for repair, make sure you include its power
cord, all of the cards installed in it, and the CPU Cables, User Cables, and
Expansion Cables you’re using with it. If you are returning the Affinity, make
sure you include everything you received with it. Before you ship, contact
Black Box to get a Return Authorization (RA) number.
