To install the Black Box ServSwitch Extender on a network:
1. Connect the transmitter to the remote computer as described previously in “Point-to-
point installation” on page 24. Connect one end of the UTP cable to the transmitter’s
RJ-45 connector. Connect the other end of the UTP cable to the Ethernet network.
2. Connect the receiver to the peripherals as described above in “Point-to-point
installation” on page 24. Use a length of UTP cable to connect the receiver to the
Ethernet network via the RJ-45 connector on the rear of the receiver.
3. Power up the receiver. A connection will be automatically established with the
remote computer.
4. Use the serial menu to re-configure the network settings for the transmitter. For more
information on how to do this see “Configuring Network Settings” on page 43.
NOTE:
If the receiver and transmitter are to be located on different subnets, configure their network settings
before you connect to the network.
NOTE:
If there are already transmitter/receiver pairs operating on the subnet, configure network settings of new
transmitter/receiver pairs before connecting them to the network.
5. Use the serial menu to re-configure the network settings for the receiver. For more
information on how to do this see “Configuring Network Settings” on page 43.
6. Repeat this procedure for each transmitter and receiver pair you wish to install on the
network.
To install the Black Box ServSwitch Extender on a network in Desktop
Mode:
1. Ensure that each transmitter and receiver has a unique IP address.
2. From the ServSwitch DTX Control discover and add the units to the Management
Appliance database. For information on how to do this refer to the Black Box
ServSwitch DTX™ Control User Guide.
