10.3. Protection Preferences
The protection preferences window allows you to configure the overall
scanning approach. You can configure the actions taken on the infected and
suspicious files detected and other general settings.
Protection Preferences
● Bitdefender Shield. Bitdefender Shield provides real-time protection
against a wide range of threats by scanning all installed apps, their updated
versions, and new and modified files. We do not recommend you to disable
Bitdefender Shield, but if you have to, do it for as little time as possible. If
Bitdefender Shield is disabled, you will not be protected against threats.
● Action for infected items. When it detects a threat, Bitdefender Antivirus
for Mac will automatically attempt to remove the malicious code from the
infected file and reconstruct the original file. This operation is referred to
as disinfection. Files that cannot be disinfected are moved to quarantine
to contain the infection.
Though not recommended, you can set the app to take no action on
infected files. Detected files are only logged.
Bitdefender Shield ensures good protection against threats, with minor
impact on system performance. If there are unresolved threats, you can
view them and decide what to do with them.
