Description The Bird Compact GPS Sensor (GPS) is a NMEA complient global positioning sensor (GPS). It is used with all SignalHawk models. It is used to record geographic position information with a trace. Note: Only SignalHawk firmware version 1.2.01302009 or higher will support the GPS sensor. To get the latest firmware for the SignalHawk, refer to the SignalHawk operators manual. Connecting a Sensor Connect the GPS to COM1 serial port located on the back of the SignalHawk.
Status Indicators GPS LED There is a blinking red LED indicator light located on the sensor. LED Status Slow Blink Has power and is acquiring a positional lock. Rapid Blink A positional lock is obtained SignalHawk GPS status is indicated by an icon in the upper right corner of the SignalHawk display as follows: Icon None Status Recording Action No GPS data is being received. No geographic position is saved with the trace. GPS data is being received; however there is no positional fix.
Troubleshooting Locate the problem, review the possible causes, and perform the action listed. If the problem is not corrected, call Bird Technologies Group service ceenter or return the unit for service. Symptom Possible Cause No LED Sensor slow to lock or does not lock Sensor malfunction. No power from the SignalHawk Fuse blown in SignalHawk Lack of satillete signal. Possible Solution Return to seller. Reposition the sensor or place outdoors.
