Industrial power modules
Model series: BEN-0500, BEN-1000, BEN-2000, BEN-4000, BEN-6000
Intended use
This power module is used for providing power to low-voltage consumers. The module must be soldered to a printed circuit board (PCB mounting).
Only a qualied technician may install this unit.
Safety instructions
Attention, danger of life! All the above mentioned models are power modules for PCB mounting. Contact with the input or output pins
of the soldered power module may cause an electric shock! The following safety label is to be axed to the cabinet: „Before opening the
cabinet, pull the mains plug!“ It is strictly forbidden to modify, open, disassemble or reconvert the power module! Any use other than
described in these operating instructions may damage the power module and cause dangers such as short-circuit, re etc.!
In case of damages due to disregard of these operating instructions any warranty will expire. Bicker will not be responsible for any consequential
damages! We refuse any responsibility for damages to property or persons due to inappropriate handling or disregard of these operating
  instructions. Any warranty will expire!
Technical data
Before using this power module, be sure to read the corresponding data sheet and the application notes. If it is unavailable, you can read or download
it in the internet on www.bicker.de. Here you will nd important information such as input voltage, output rating, operating temperature, derating,
connection of earth conductor (if existing) and information to improve the EMC characteristics. The power module may not be operated outside of
these technical data!
Installation and start-up
Only a qualied technician may install this unit. During installation the respective standards regarding electrical safety as well as the standard
EN 60950 have to be observed. Before soldering the power module, power-o the unit by disconnecting the power plug from the power module.
The power module is a built-in unit and may preferably be used inside a metal housing. The end device must comply with the current EMC standards.
To comply with EN55022 Class B, depending on the application, an external lter may be necessary (see optional accessories). It is also recommended
to use short cables between the module and the load.
The power modules BEN-05/10/20/40 are products according to Protection Class I. When installing the power modules BEN-05/10/20/40, ensure a
secure protective conductor connection from the power module to the metal housing (via circuit board). The leakage current should not exceed
3,5 mA. During installation ensure that the power module is adequately ventilated. Free circulation of air has to be possible. Also make sure that the
ventilation slots are not covered by objects, assembly parts or ribbon cables.
For more general information, as well as an additional diagram to improve the EMC characteristics can be read or downloaded for the corresponding
products on www.bicker.de.
Operation
The power module may only be operated in dry interiors. Contact with water, even by condensing air humidity, has to be avoided under any
circumstances. Operation under conditions such as extreme cold or heat, in a dusty environment and near inammable gases, steams or solvents is
strictly forbidden as well. Always ensure an adequate ventilation.
Derating
When operating the power module in a higher temperature range (e.g. +50…+70 °C for BEN-6012) the power drain has to be reduced in order to
decrease the load applied to the unit. This is not done automatically. The user himself has to take this into consideration when setting up the system
and allow for an adequate power reserve! Refer to the derating information in the data sheet.
Example: If a BEN-6012 power module has to be operated at +60 °C operating temperature and a derating of 2.5 % / °C within the range of
+50…+70 °C is dened in the data sheet, the output load may not exceed 45 Watts.
Maintenance
The power module does not contain any parts which need maintenance.
In case of failure, switch-o the power module and pull the main plug.
Repairing is not possible due to the encapsulated construction.
