FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Audio/Video Door Entry
Q – Is it possible to install several systems in a building and use the same cards.
A Yes, provided that the same equipment is installed on each door. It is not suggested that you “mix & match” manufacturers equipment.
Q – Can I install a Self-Contained access system on a front entrance to a building.
A Yes, but it is not recommended. If the unit is vandalised or removed from the wall, it may be possible to gain entry.
Q – Can I combine my access system with an audio/video entry system.
A Yes, most audio/video entry manufacturers offer their panels with the facility to integrate a proximity reader. (Special order)
Q – My keypad will not operate my lock.
A – Does the code require a confirmation key to be entered after the code.
A – Has an incorrect code been entered before, as some keypads have a penalty/lockout timer built into them.
A – Has the keypad been programmed correctly according to the instructions.
A – Do you get an audible/visual indication of correct code. If yes, check the connections to the lock and that the locking device is suppressed.
If not, irreparable damage may have occurred.
Q – My Card reader system will not operate my lock.
A – Have the cards been programmed/enabled correctly according to the instructions.
A – Do you get an audible/visual indication of a valid card. If yes, check the connections to the lock and that the locking device is suppressed.
If not, irreparable damage may have occurred.
Q – I don’t have speech either way.
A – Check that there is power to the system.
A – Check the two speech lines according to the instructions. (Transmit & Receive)
Q – I have acoustic feedback. (Whistling/howling)
A – Reduce both the speaker and mic volumes and readjust until a suitable level is achieved.
Q When I press the button on the handset, my lock release doesn’t operate.
A – Check that there is power between the lock button & common supply at the handset.
A – Check the cable between the lock and PSU, and between the lock and handset.
Q – Can I use a Maglock with my Audio/Video system.
A Yes, but additional equipment will be required. i.e Regulated DC PSU, timer/relay, exit button and break glass unit.
Q The picture on the monitor is rolling.
A – Check that the voltage is correct at the monitor.Typically if additional monitors have been fitted without auxiliary PSU’s.
Q – If I want to call 2 handsets from 1 button at the door, is this a 2 way system.
A – No, it is a 1 way system with an additional handset.A 2 way system is 2 separate buttons calling 2 separate handsets.
Q – Can I get a 12VAC Fail Safe Release.
A – No, 12VAC releases are only available in Fail Secure.
Note: If a Fail Safe release is required on a 12VAC audio/video system, additional equipment will be required. i.e. Regulated DC PSU and a timer/relay.
Access Control
Electric Locking
Q – My Maglock holds the door, but I can pull it open without much effort.
A – Check that the armature plate is not rigid against the door. It must have lateral movement of 2-4mm to allow full face to face contact.
A – Check that the faces of the magnet and armature are aligned correctly.
A – Check the voltage at the MAGNET, especially if it is a distance from the PSU.It must be a MINIMUM of 12Vdc or 24Vdc, depending on the
magnets configuration.
A – Ensure the correct cable has been used according to the cable length, and is capable of carrying the current required.
Q – My Shearlock/Solenoid bolt constantly locks and unlocks.
A – Check that the correct PSU has been used.Typically these types of locking devices have an “In Rush” current and require approximately 2Amps
to lock them.
A – Check the voltage at the SHEARLOCK/SOLENOID BOLT, especially if it is a distance from the PSU. It must be a MINIMUM of 12Vdc or 24Vdc,
depending on the configuration.
A – Ensure the correct cable has been used according to the cable length, and is capable of carrying the current required.
Q – My Shearlock/Solenoid bolt wont lock.
A – Check that the gap between the lock body and strike/armature plate is not greater than the one recommended in the installation instructions.
A – Ensure the door closes centrally.
Q – How do I determine if my door is “Inward” or “Outward”opening.
A – Stand on the secure side of the door, if the door opens away from you, it is “Outward” opening, if the door opens towards you, it is “Inward”
opening.
Q – Can I get a 12VAC Fail Safe Release.
A – No, 12VAC releases are only available in Fail Secure.
Q – Can I use a 12VAC PSU to power a Maglock.
A – No, a 12Vdc-regulated PSU must be used.
Q – I have fitted a diode as suppression to my locking device and when it is operated it blows the fuse.
A The diode is polarity conscious, the silver band end is the positive end.
