Instructions / Assembly

Introduction
Your BetterVent® should be located on a vertical
wall as close as possible to the electric clothes dryer.
It should not be exhausted into an attic, sot, ridge
vent or crawl space.
Your BetterVent® should be installed at a height
convenient to the operator.
Your BetterVent® should be located at a position that
will be easy for the user to access, clean and maintain.
We recommend that the exhaust line be any UL listed
dryer transition duct.
The connection at the back of the dryer may be made
with a metal 90 degree tting known as a “close
elbow” to prevent the transition hose from being
crushed against the wall.
Vinyl ex ducts should never be used.
Our website includes instructional videos to help with
installation, calibration and cleaning of your BetterVent®.

video you would like to see.
Installation
1. Select a wall close to the dryer which allows you to
meet the recommendations above.
2. Release the door latches and open the door. Steady
the BetterVent
®
against the wall and mark the screw
locations.
3. If the wall is concrete or plaster, drill a 1/4”hole at
screw locations 1 1/2” deep and tap in the plastic
anchors.
4. If the wall is sheetrock, drill a 3/16” hole and tap in
the plastic anchors.
5. Position the BetterVent to align with the anchors and
screw to the wall.
Installing the exhaust line
1. Determine if your dryer has a sidewall option for
ducting. Choose a connection that will provide the
shortest path. This might be the back of the dryer
cabinet or sidewall.
2. If the connection is at the back of the dryer cabinet,
slide the dryer away from the wall and install a metal
90 degree tting (close elbow).
3. Stretch out a small portion of the metal ex duct and
make connection to the close elbow. Secure with
hose clamp.
4. Carefully lead the ex towards your BetterVent
®
and
make connection. Secure with hose clamp.
5. Your BetterVent
®
is now installed and ready for
calibration. Enjoy!
Calibrating the Safety Exhaust Flap
The Safety Exhaust Flap (SEF) is designed to alert the
homeowner that the lter is completely loaded and needs
to be cleaned or replaced. It remains in the open position
until reset by the user. The SEF needs to be calibrated by
the homeowner using weights (included) to match the
exhaust output of the dryer.
The BetterVent
®
comes with one 1/2” wide and three 3/4”
wide, peel and stick strips. You will use the strips to weight
the SEF in order to keep it closed.
This procedure is quite simple and should take just a few
minutes.
1. Make sure that you have cleaned the screen inside
your dryer. This should be done after each dryer load
as recommended by the manufacturer.
2. Take the 60 mil weight, peel o the brown paper and
attach it to the inside of the Safety Exhaust Flap. The 60
mil weight is the smaller, thicker one included in your
accessory pack.
3. Find a book, notebook, clipboard or magazine. Turn
your dryer on and cover about 25% of the door.
4. What should happen now is that either your Safety
Exhaust Flap will open or stay closed. If it stays closed,
continue to move upwards until the ap opens.

5. If it opens before you reach 80% coverage of the door,
add another peel and stick weight to the top of the
Safety Exhaust Flap and do the test again. Continue
to add weights, as needed, until Safety Exhaust Flap
opens at 80% coverage. Most users do not have to
add more than 2 weights.
Operating Instructions
Your BetterVent
®
has been designed for easy
maintenance. It is necessary that the user clean and
service the BetterVent
®
as part of a regular laundry
room routine.
Your BetterVent
®
contains a screen lter and a polyester
lter. The screen lter collects lint, pet hair and other large
debris and serves to extend the life of the polyester lter.
Filters are installed with blue side to the INSIDE of the
vent and placed between the removable screen and the
door. You should see the white side of the lter when the
door is closed.
The polyester media lter is specically designed to keep
ne lint dust from entering the indoor environment.
Cleaning
Cleaning the screen lter is easy. Simply release the door
latches, lower the door, and (while leaving the screen in
place) reach in and remove the accumulated lint with a
sweeping motion of the hand.
Clean the screen frame every 3-5 dryer loads.
The polyester lter can be lightly vacuumed or replaced
every 5-8 dryer loads. Do not wash.
Your polyester lter is inserted with the white side facing
out towards the room when the door of the BetterVent
®
is
closed.
Replacement lters can be purchased from our website:
