BASIC RULES OF FIREARM SAFETY. 1. Treat every firearm as though it were loaded. 2. Be sure the barrel is clear of any obstruction or oil. 3. Store firearms and ammunition separately, locked if possible, and out of reach of children and others unfamiliar with firearms. 4. Be sure of your backstop, target, what is beyond the target, and the safety of any bystander before shooting. 5. Always wear adequate eye and ear protection when shooting. 6.
