GAUGE: 13 sc and 14 rows = 4" [10 cm] with
larger hook.
INSTRUCTIONS
Note: Do not break yarn. Carry colors not in
use loosely up WS of work.
With A and larger hook, ch 4. Join with sl st to
rst ch to form ring.
1st rnd: Ch 3 (counts as dc). (1 dc. Ch 1) in
ring. (2 dc. ch 1) 5 times. Join B with sl st to
top of ch 3.
2nd rnd: With B, sl st in next dc and ch-1 sp.
Ch 3 (counts as dc). (1 dc. Ch 1. 2 dc) in same
sp as last sl st. *Ch 1. (2 dc. Ch 1. 2 dc) in next
ch-1 sp. Rep from * around. Join C with sl st to
top of ch 3. 12 ch-1 sps.
3rd rnd: With C, sl st in next dc and ch-1 sp.
Ch 3 (counts as dc). 2 dc in same sp as last sl st.
*Ch 1. 3 dc in next ch-1 sp. Rep from * around.
Ch 1. Join D with sl st to top of ch 3.
4th rnd: With D, sl st in each of next 2 dc and
ch-1 sp. Ch 3 (counts as dc). 2 dc in same sp
as last sl st. *Ch 1. (2 dc. Ch 1. 2 dc) in next
ch-1 sp. Ch 1. 3 dc in next ch-1 sp. Rep from
* around. Ch 1. Join E with sl st to top of ch 3.
18 ch-1 sps.
5th rnd: With E, sl st in each of next 2 dc and
ch-1 sp. Ch 3 (counts as dc). 2 dc in same sp as
last sl st. *Ch 1. 3 dc in next ch-1 sp. Rep from
* around. Ch 1. Join A with sl st to top of ch 3.
6th rnd: With A, sl st in each of next 2 dc and
ch-1 sp. Ch 3 (counts as dc). (1 dc. Ch 1. 2 dc)
in same sp as last sl st. Ch 1. *(3 dc in next
ch-1 sp. Ch 1) ve times.** (2 dc. Ch 1. 2 dc) in
next ch-1 sp. Ch 1. Rep from * once, then from
* to ** once more. Join B with sl st to top of
ch 3. 21 ch-1 sps.
7th rnd: With B, as 5th rnd, join C at end of rnd.
8th rnd: With C, as 5th rnd, join D at end of rnd.
Cont as established, working 1 rnd each in
D, E, A, B, C, D, E until Hat from beg measures
approx 8" [20.5 cm], ending with 1 rnd of E.
Join A with sl st to top of ch 3.
Ribbing
Change to smaller hook and proceed as
follows:
1st rnd: With A, ch 1. Work 1 sc in each dc and
ch-1 sp around. Join with sl st to rst sc. 80 sc.
2nd rnd: Ch 2. *Dcfp around next sc. Dcbp
around next sc. Rep from * around. Join with
sl st to top of ch 2.
3rd rnd: Ch 2. *Dcfp around next st. Dcbp
around next st. Rep from * around. Join with
sl st to top of ch 2.
Rep last rnd until ribbing measures 2" [5 cm].
