Important safety instructions Your BenQ projector is designed and tested to meet the latest standards for safety of information technology equipment. However, to ensure safe use of this product, it is important that you follow the instructions mentioned in this manual and marked on the product. Caution • To prevent shock, do not open the cabinet. There are no user-serviceable parts inside. • Please read this user’s manual before you operate your projector. Save this user’s manual for future reference.
Safety Instructions 1. 2 The lamp becomes extremely hot during operation. Allow the projector to cool for approximately 45 minutes prior to removing the lamp assembly for replacement. 2. Do not operate lamps beyond the rated lamp life. Excessive operation of lamps beyond the rated life could cause them to explode on rare occasions. 3. Remote control effective range Infra Red (IR) remote control sensors are located on the front and the back of the projector. The remote control must be held at an angle within 30 degrees of the projector’s IR remote control sensors to function correctly. The distance between the remote control and the sensors should not exceed 6 meters (19.5 feet). 6m Back view The laser beam is visible. It is necessary to depress the Laser button for continuous output. The laser pointer is not a toy.
Installing or Replacing the Batteries 1 12 Push and open the battery compartment lid in the direction shown. 2 Install batteries as indicated by the diagram inside the compartment. 3 Position the lid over the compartment and snap it back into place. • Avoid excessive heat and humidity. There may be danger of damage to the remote and injury to those nearby if the batteries are incorrectly replaced. • Replace only with the same or equivalent type recommended by the manufacturer.
Positioning your projector Choosing a location Your projector is designed to be installed in one of four possible installation locations: 1. Floor in front of screen; 2. Ceiling in front of screen; 3. Floor at rear of screen; or 4. Ceiling at rear of screen. With the use of this wireless projector, there's no need to worry about cable connections.
If you place the projector above or below the screen, you have to tilt it down or up to center the image on the screen, in these situations image distortion will occur. Use the Keystone function to correct the distortion. See page 28 for keystone correction. Obtaining a preferred projected image size The distance from the projector lens to the screen, the zoom setting, and the video format each factors in the projected image size.

Connection Wireless connection This is the recommended and most convenient way of using this projector. You will need to insert the wireless card to your projector and install the necessary software onto your laptop to enable you to make presentations. To use the projector without cables: 1. 2. Align the wireless card with the designed slot on the front side of the projector. Insert the wireless card to your projector. The eject button pops out once the card is fully inserted.
Connecting to a laptop or desktop computer VGA cable VGA cable USB cable Audio cable Notes: • A Mac adaptor (an optional accessory) may be necessary if you are connecting to an older Macintosh computers. • The USB cable is required if you intend using the mouse functions on the remote control. • Many laptops do not turn on their external video ports when connected to a projector. Usually a key combo like FN + F3 or CRT/LCD key turns the external display on/off.

Also check that the signal cables have been connected correctly.
Operation Start up 1. 2. Switch all of the connected equipment on. Plug the power cord into the projector and into a wall socket. Turn on the power point (if switched). 3. Turn the main power switch on. The Power indicator lights orange. Remove the lens cap. If it is left on, it could become deformed due to heat. 4. 5. Press and hold (for 2 seconds) the Power button on the remote control or projector to start the unit. The Power indicator light flashes green when the unit is on.
8. 9. If you are going to display a image from other signal input, press Source on the projector or remote control. The projector screen displays the current input source being scanned at the bottom right corner of the screen. If no input source signal is detected, the search will continue until an input source signal is detected. For more information on source selection, refer to “Switching input signals” section below.
Adjusting the image Adjusting the height Place your projector on a flat level surface and ensure that the projector is square to the screen. The projector is equipped with 2 quick-release adjuster feet. These adjusters change the image height and projection angle. To adjust the projector, 1. Lift the projector up and press the adjuster button to release the adjuster. The adjuster will drop into position and be locked. Do not look into the lens while the lamp is on.
Correcting keystone Keystoning refers to the situation where the projected image is noticeably wider at either the top or bottom. It occurs when the projector is not perpendicular to the screen. To correct this, besides adjusting the height of the projector, you will need to manually correct it following ONE of these steps. A. Press 3 Left/ Right 4 (hot key) on the control panel of the projector to display the status bar labelled Keystone. Press Right 4to correct keystoning at the top of the image.
Zoom In + / Zoom Out By pressing Zoom +, the center of the picture will be magnified. When the + button is pressed again, the picture is further magnified. Use the Mouse Pad to navigate the image. By pressing Zoom -, the size of the image is reduced. When the - button is pressed again, the picture is further reduced until it is restored to the original size. You can also restore the actual image size by pressing Return. Optimizing the image Use the remote control or on-screen menus to optimize the image.
Laser pointer operation The Laser Pointer is a presentation aid for professionals. It emits red colored light when you press it and the LED indicator lights up green. Do not look into the laser light window or shine the laser light beam on yourself or others. Refer to the warning messages on the back of the remote control and the attached “User Information” prior to using it.
PIP (Picture In Picture) operation Your projector is capable of displaying images simultaneously from two input sources, which can be used to enhance your presentation in an interesting way. These functions are available only when the input source is PC and the PIP source is Video or S-Video. Operation on the remote control 1. Ensure both the PC, and Video or S-Video signals are correctly connected to the projector. 2. Display the PC image on the screen. 3.
Freezing the image The image is frozen when Freeze is pressed. An icon will appear in the lower right corner of the screen. To release the function, press Freeze again, Return or Source (this will change the input source and release the pause function). Even if an image is frozen on the screen, the pictures are running on the video or other device. If the connected devices have active audio output, you will still hear the audio even though the image is frozen. Refer to page 39 for more information.
Shutdown 1. 2. Press Power and a confirmation prompt message displays. To turn the projector off, press Power again. The Power indicator light flashes orange and the lamp shuts down. The fans will continue to run for approximately 90 seconds to cool down the projector lamp. To protect the lamp, the projector will not respond to any commands during the cooling process. 3. Turn the main power switch off.
Menu operation Menu System The OSD menus will vary according to the selected signal type. Functions available when receiving different signal types...
Using the menus The projector is equipped with on-screen display (OSD) menus for making various adjustments and settings. There are 10 different menu languages. (Refer to page 39 for more details.) The following example describes the adjustment of the keystone. 1. Press Menu on the projector or remote control to turn the on-screen menu on. 4. Adjust keystone values by pressing 3 Left/ Right 4on the projector or 3 Keystone/ Keystone 4 on the remote control. 2.
1. Display menu Some picture adjustments are available only when certain input ports are in use. Unavailable adjustments are not shown on the screen. FUNCTION DESCRIPTION Keystone Corrects any keystoning of the image. Refer to page 32 for more information. Adjusts the brightness of the image. The higher the value, the brighter the image. And lower the setting, darker the image. Adjust this control so the black areas of the image appear just as black and that detail in the dark areas is visible.

3. Source menu FUNCTION DESCRIPTION Mirror The projector can be installed on a ceiling or behind a screen, or with one or more mirrors. Contact your dealer for the ceiling mount bracket (optional accessory) if you need to install the projector on your ceiling. For more information, refer to page 19. Source Shows the current signal source. Adjusts the volume level. Volume Adjusts the treble level. (-5 ~ 5) Treble Adjusts the bass level.
4. Control menu FUNCTION DESCRIPTION Language sets the language for the OSD control menus. Language Use the 3 / 4 key to select the desired language from among English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Russian, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, Japanese and Korean. OSD Pos. Selects a desired OSD position. OSD OSD Time Sets the length of time the OSD will remain active after your last button press. The range is from 5 to 60 seconds.
A mode for extreme environments like high altitude and high temperature. We recommend you use the High Altitude mode when your environment is higher than 3000 feet above sea level, or is hotter than 40℃. Operation under "High Altitude Mode" may cause a higher decibel operating noise level because of increased fan speed necessary to improve High Altitude overall system cooling and performance.
5. PIP (Picture In Picture) menu Your projector is capable of displaying images simultaneously from two input sources, which can be used to enhance your presentation in an interesting way. These functions are available only when the input source is PC and the PIP source is Video or S-Video. FUNCTION PIP Source PIP Size DESCRIPTION Selects the source for the PIP image. Auto is the recommended PIP source as the projector will search for a suitable signal automatically.
Maintenance Your projector needs little maintenance. The only things you have to do on a regular basis are to keep the lens clean and to clean the dust filters to prevent overheating. Never remove any parts of the projector except the lamp and dust filters. Contact your dealer if other parts need replacing. Cleaning the lens Clean the lens whenever you notice dirt or dust on the surface. Use a canister of compressed air to remove dust.
4. 5. Use a small vacuum cleaner designed for computers and other office equipment to clean the filters. Or use a soft brush (such as a clean artist’s paintbrush) to gently sweep the dust away. If the dirt is difficult to remove or the filters are broken, replace them. Contact your dealer or visit BenQ website at www.BenQ.com for more service information. Replace the filters then press the covers back until they click into place.
Lamp information Use and replacement of the lamp When the Lamp Indicator lights up red or a message appears suggesting it is time to replace the lamp, please install a new lamp. An old lamp may cause a malfunction in the projector and in some instances the lamp may explode. For more detailed information on the warning indicators, please refer to page 46. The Lamp indicator light and Temperature warning light will light up if the lamp becomes too hot.
• This lamp contains mercury. Consult your local hazardous waste regulations and dispose of this lamp in the proper manner. Step 1. Turn the power off and disconnect the projector from the wall socket. Step 2. Protect the projector's surface by clearing a flat open area on your desk and placing a soft item on the desk for padding. Step 3. Turn the projector over. Then loosen the screws and remove the lamp cover. If the lamp is hot, avoid burns by waiting for 45 minutes until the lamp has cooled. Step 4.
• Do not reset if the lamp is not replaced as this could cause damage. Step 9. Reset the lamp counter 1. Press and hold Exit on the projector for 3 seconds to display the total used lamp time. 2. Press Menu on the projector or on the remote control to access the lamp hour timer. An adjustment message will appear. 3. Press W or X to reset lamp hours and press EXIT to leave. Temperature warning light When the Temperature warning light is on, it is warning you of the following possible problems: 1.

O O - - - (1) The projector needs 90 seconds to cool down as it was abnormally shut down without the normal cooling down process. Troubleshooting Common problems & solutions THE PROJECTOR DOES NOT TURN ON. Cause Remedy There is no power from the power cable. Plug the power cord into the AC inlet on the projector, and plug the power cord into the power outlet. If the power outlet has a switch, make sure that it is switched on. Attempting to turn the projector on again during the cooling process. Wait until the cooling down process has completed. NO PICTURE Cause Remedy The video source is not turned on or connected correctly.
