22 Basic operations
The time the smart display takes to activate screen timeout may vary, depending on your setting
in > Settings > Display > Sleep.
Device security
Secure your smart display with screen lock. See Security on page 70 for more information.
Screen lock
When screen timeout is activated (see page 21), the screen is locked as well to prevent from
inadvertent usage. To choose the way to unlock the screen, tap > Settings > Security >
Screen lock.
Text entry
Text input is possible by the onscreen keyboard, voice typing, and the connected keyboard.
When you use the applications on the smart display and need to enter words or numbers, tap
the enter field on the screen. The onscreen keyboard appears. Depending on the current
application, the keyboard of the same text input method may vary.
If you prefer to enter text by speaking, tap or next to the enter field.
To hide the on-screen keyboard, tap .
Changing the text input method
By default, there are several built-in text input methods available on the smart display and one
of them is enabled. You can choose another text input method manually.
1. Tap to go back to the main Home screen.
2. Tap > Settings > Language & input.
3. Tap to deselect Default under KEYBOARD & INPUT METHODS.
4. Tap to select a desired input method.
5. Make sure that the related settings are properly made for the desired text input method in
Settings > Language & keyboard. Tap on the right end of each input method to for
configuration.
Copying and pasting the selected texts
1. Tap and hold and select the texts you want to copy. A text selection toolbar is displayed.
2. Tap to copy the texts.
• Screen timeout does not end any running tasks.
• Some applications will prevent the smart display from entering sleep mode if they are in use.
Tap the text field to bring up the onscreen keyboard if an USB keyboard is not connected to the smart display.
