Multifrequency RFID-Reader
1. Introduction
RFID (Radio Frequency IDentification) is a procedure for electronic identification of objects by means of
radio transmission. An RFID system consists of two components: an RFID reader and an RFID
transponder (RFID tag). Each RFID tag is provided with a worldwide unique UID no (unique identifier)
which can be read by means of the RFID reader and assigned to a test sample (e. g. an electrical
device) without any contact.
In the field of periodic inspection of electrical equipment (devices), radio frequencies of 125 kHz (LF) and
13.56 MHz (HF) prevail.
The multi-frequency RFID reader and the optional RFID tags are accessories which have been tested
and approved for the BENNING ST 750 A Appliance Tester.
Compared to test sample identification by means of barcode scanners / labels, RFID technology offers
the significant advantage that it can be applied continuously and reliably even in harsh industrial
environments, in production facilities and workshops as well as on construction sites.
2. Using the RFID-Reader with the appliance tester BENNING ST 750 A
- Connect the RFID reader to the USB A jack of the appliance tester and switch the appliance
tester ON.
- The stand-by mode of the RFID reader is indicated by a green LED and an acoustic signal.
- Select the <Automatic Test> of the appliance tester.
- Hold the scanning window of the RFID reader over the RFID tag.
- The reading process starts (green LED goes out, red LED flashes, acoustic signal is emitted) and
the UID no. of the RFID tag is searched in the internal database of the appliance tester and
displayed.
- If the UID no. cannot be found in the database, a new test sample can be created with the UID
no. of the RFID tag. The UID no. of the RFID reader will be entered automatically in the <ID no.>
field of the new test sample.
- A new RFID tag can be read as soon as the green LED for stand-by mode lights up.
