Important notice
Always make sure that the inertia spring
(or bolt recoil spring) is positioned
between the locking head and the bolt it-
self, in order to avoid discharging the
weapon when the bolt is closed.
Maintenance
Before attempting any work on your Be-
nelli make sure that the chamber and the
magazine of your shotgun are unloaded.
See the instructions on loading and unload-
ing on pages 23-24.
Thanks to its extreme simplicity and excel-
lent materials, the Benelli Automatic Shot-
gun requires no special maintenance.
The following few controls are necessary:
- Normal cleaning of the barrel after use.
- The firing mechanism, consisting of the
hammer, trigger etc., may become clogg-
ed with dust or foreign matter. Remove
this by periodical cleaning or lubrication.
- The bolt assembly may also become
clogged with the same material and must
be periodically dismantled, cleaned and
lubricated.
To keep the gun in good order, we re-
commend you to keep the parts subject
to atmospheric corrosion lubricated.
All barrels are internally chromium plated.
Use only the Benelli Armi cleaning set
and oil (figs. 53-54) (not equipped with
shotgun).
Trouble shooting
Advice on how to best use your
Benelli semi-automatic shotgun
The gun fails to fire:
a) Check the safety catch; if it is engaged,
shift the button to the FIRE position.
b) Check that there is a cartridge in the
chamber; if not, follow the loading in-
structions described above.
c) Check the firing mechanism and, if ne-
cessary, clean and lubricate it.
Fore-end cap
Following assembly, and especially after
firing a few rounds, check that the fore-
end cap is tightened firmly and keeps
the barrel securely fastened to the recei-
ver.
Ammunition
The Benelli semi-automatic shotgun uses
the kinetic energy generated by the re-
coil to work the action.
Note: always use ammunition that is
powerful enough to fully cycle the ac-
tion.
Barrel with internal choke tubes
The barrels with internal chokes are equip-
ped with various types of choke tubes.
Before attempting any work on your shot-
gun, make sure that the chamber and the
magazine of your shotgun are unloaded!
(Carefully read the instructions on gun load-
ing and unloading on pages 23-24).
To change or clean the internal choke, pro-
ceed as follows:
1) unscrew the internal choke using the
special choke wrench supplied with the
shotgun and extract it completely from
the barrel seat (fig. 55);
2) if the threaded seat of the choke on the
barrel is too dirty, clean it by spinning
round the threaded part of the proper
wrench (fig. 56);
Warning: before to use the shotgun again,
take care that the choke wrench has been
removed from the barrel muzzle.
