Loading
The Benelli magazine holds one, two, three
or four cartridges, according to the model
and to standards. Total firing capacity is
two, three, four or five rounds, including
the one in the chamber.
To load the shotgun:
- Apply the safety catch by pressing the
safety button on the trigger guard until
its red ring, indicating firing position, is
no longer visible; for greater safety, open
the bolt by means of the cocking lever to
check that the gun is not loaded. Then
re-close the bolt.
- Make sure that the weapon is not loaded
by opening the bolt with the bolt lever
(fig. 15) and closing it again by pushing
the carrier release (fig. 12). These move-
ments also cock the hammer, a neces-
sary step in loading the shotgung.
- With the bolt closed and the hammer
cocked, reverse the gun pointing the
barrel downwards. Insert a cartridge in
the magazine and push it in with the
thumb until it is retained by the carrier
latch, which engages automatically (fi-
gures 16 and 17). Repeat the operation
until the magazine is fully loaded.
Note:
The gun must be loaded with the hammer
cocked so that the carrier latch can retain
the cartridges as they are inserted in the
magazine.
The red dot on the cartridge drop lever,
which indicates that the hammer is cock-
ed, must be in view. To bring lever to this
position, press the carrier latch button.
At this point the gun cannot be fired unless
a cartridge is placed in the chamber.
Open the bolt and hold it in this position
through the cocking lever. Place a cartridge
in the barrel through the ejection port
(fig. 18).
Release the cocking lever: the bolt will push
the cartridge into the chamber and stop in
the closed position.
Warning: always point the gun in a safe
direction during these operations, even
though the safety catch is engaged.
The gun is now loaded; when the safety
catch is moved to the forward position (red
ring in view), it is ready for use.
Note:
Due to precision machined tolerances on
your shotgun some wear-in period may be
required before your new gun will function
reliably with light target loads. If you ex-
perience any initial functioning problems
with one ounce loads, we recommend fir-
ing three or four boxes of standard hunting
loads to allow for this break-in period.
To replace the cartridge
in the chamber
A) - Manual replacement
If you wish to replace the cartridge in
the chamber, rest the stock on your
thigh and pull the cocking lever to
open the bolt (fig. 19).
The cartridge in the chamber is ex-
tracted and ejected from the gun (fig.
19). Insert a new cartridge even par-
tially in the barrel through the special
ejection window (fig. 18) and release
the cocking lever to reclose the bolt.
B) - Using the cartridge drop lever
To replace the cartridge in the cham-
ber, rest the stock on your thigh and
pull the cocking lever to open the
bolt (fig. 15). The cartridge in the
chamber is extracted and ejected
from the gun. Press the cartridge drop
lever (see figure 4) so that the first
chamber in the magazine will be de-
posited onto the carrier; then ease the
bolt lever back forward, allowing the
bolt to close again and fully chamber
the cartrdige (fig. 12).
