Air Disc Brake Actuator Vent Hole Orientation
Action: Vehicles with Bendix
®
brand air disc brake actuators should be inspected to verify that the vent
hole closest to the bottom of the actuator is open. If a plug is found in this location, it must be removed to allow
proper draining. The removed plug can be discarded. It is not necessary to place it in the other open port. Removal
of the plug is easily completed by pulling it out with a pair of needle nose pliers. Note that the removal of this plug
will not impact the actuator warranty.
Since testing has shown that having more than one vent open does not impact either performance, or the life of
the product, the plugs are being removed from all Bendix air disc brake actuator designs. This will eliminate the
possibility of water and contaminants collecting in the actuators, reduce part numbers and inventories, and make
servicing the actuators easier.
