6.5.4 Connectors
All connectors must be securely connected to prevent environmental
contamination or damage. All ABS electrical connectors should be greased for
added protection against corrosion. If a connector is not joined to its mate or
otherwise left exposed during the painting of the trailer, damage could be done to
the connector. Tape, or other means of protection, must be used to assure the
connector does not become contaminated. Refer to Section 3.2 for the standard
connectors that are used with the TABS6 Trailer ABS system.
6.5.5 Routing and Securing of Wires
Once assembled, all wheel speed sensor cables, power, ground and warning
light connections must be properly restrained to prevent wire and connector
damage.
Fastening the pigtail harness leads to the control line, less than 12 inches from
the TABS6 connector provides strain relief. In addition to these tie-wraps, it is
necessary that any additional wiring be secured at approximate 18 inch intervals
throughout their length.
Speed sensor wiring coming out of the wheel ends should be routed away from
moving brake components and secured to the axle to prevent excess cable
length and wiring damage. The sensor wires should be secured along the
service brake hoses leading to the TABS6 ECU pigtail. The stress loop allows
the sensor to properly adjust but not to be pulled out of adjustment.
Bendix does not recommend using standard tie-wraps to secure wiring
harnesses directly to rubber airlines. This can cause premature wiring failure
from excessive expansion when air pressure is applied. Non-metallic hose
clamps or bow tie tie-wraps are preferred.
