6.3.6 Exciter Ring Damage
At a minimum, replace the exciter ring if any of the following conditions are
detected.
• Damaged, chipped or broken teeth
• Tooth height less than 0.050 inches (1.27 mm)
• Cracked exciter ring
• Rust on exciter ring
• Exciter ring loose on hub
6.4 Trailer ABS Warning Lamp
An acceptable indicator light (environmentally sealed, amber) can be obtained through
Bendix or other suppliers. The trailer-mounted ABS warning lamp is powered from the
TABS6 ECU. Bendix strongly recommends against the use of a trailer frame or chassis
ground for the trailer-mounted ABS warning lamp.

Per FMVSS 121, the letters “ABS” must be molded, stamped, or otherwise marked on the
lamp lens or its housing in letters not less than 10 mm (0.4 inches) high to identify the
function of the lamp. For non-labeled lamps, an “ABS” label may be affixed to the trailer
body or converter dolly. The letters for a non-labeled lamp are to no less than 25 mm (1
inch) high and not further than 150 mm (5.9 inches) from the edge of the lamp lens.
6.4.1 Trailer Lamp Location
Per FMVSS 121, the ABS warning lamp must be mounted on the left side of the
trailer as viewed from the rear. In addition, the lamp is to be no closer than 150
mm (5.9 inches) and no further than 600 mm (23.6 inches) from the rear-side,
red marker lamp.
6.4.2 Dolly Lamp Location
Per FMVSS 121, each trailer converter dolly should be equipped with a lamp
mounted on the permanent structure of the dolly. The lamp is not to be less than
375 mm (14.8 inches) above the road surface when measured from the center of
the lamp with the dolly at curb weight. When a person standing 3 meters (9.8
feet) from the lamp, view the lamp from a perspective perpendicular to the
vehicle’s centerline, no portion of the lamp should be obscured by any structure
on the dolly.
