SHEET NO. 37
5.2.3.2.4 Defect (Missing) Tone Rings
The TABS6 monitors the wheel speed inputs and is
capable of identifying and rejecting sporadic noise
signals caused by missing tone rings.
5.2.3.2.5 All Speed Signals missing.
The TABS6 monitors the vehicle velocity data from PLC.
If no trailer wheel speed information is being received,
yet the vehicle velocity from PLC has been greater than
18.6 MPH (30km/h) for 120 seconds, a fault is recorded.
This fault can only be detected on wheels that are not
configured as lift axles. With this fault, the TABS6
illuminates the trailer-mounted warning lamp and
broadcast the diagnostic message over the diagnostic
data bus if possible.
5.2.4 Modulator Diagnostics
5.2.4.1 Power-Up Chuff Test
With the TABS6 power applied at standstill, all the modulator solenoids
are activated five (5) times in a rapid-fire fashion. This serves two (2)
purposes; 1) it helps to prevent the solenoids from seizing and 2) it
allows an audible indication that TABS6 is functioning.
5.2.4.2 Electrical Modulator Fault Detection
The TABS6 detects electrical errors in the modulators or associated
wiring. The following faults are detected under all control modes:
open circuit
short circuit coil
short circuit to ground
short circuit to battery
short circuit between solenoid’s.
The TABS6 decides if the issue may cause any degradation of the ABS
performance. If so, then TABS6 will either select a partial operating
mode or switch off all control functions. With this fault, the TABS6
illuminates the trailer-mounted warning lamp and broadcast the
diagnostic message over the diagnostic data bus if possible.
5.2.4.3 Dynamic Modulator Fault Detection
The TABS6 monitors during an ABS event the expected wheel speed
reaction at the wheel end. If the electrical circuit is known to be healthy,
the TABS6 will disable the suspected modulator and either shall select
either a partial operating mode or switch of all control functions. With this
fault, the TABS6 illuminates the trailer-mounted warning lamp and
broadcast the diagnostic message over the diagnostic data bus if
possible.
