5 TABS6 Diagnostics
5.1 Fault Detection
The TABS6 contains self-testing diagnostic circuitry that continuously checks for proper
operation of internal components and circuitry, as well as external ABS components and
wiring.
5.1.1 Active Faults
The TABS6 performs the following steps when an erroneous system condition is
detected:
1. Illuminates the appropriate warning lamp(s) and disengages a portion or all
of the ABS functions.
2. Places the appropriate fault code information in the ECU memory.
3. Broadcasts the appropriate fault code information over the diagnostic data
bus as required.
All faults, with the exception of voltage, will remain in an active state for the
remainder of the power cycle. Voltage faults will clear automatically when the
voltage returns within the required limits. All ABS functions will be re-engaged.
The TABS6 provides a record of eight (8) active faults. Each record consists of
the following data:
• Fault Number
• Occurrence Count, limited to a maximum of 255 counts
• Odometer Reading at last detection
When a new fault is to be stored and there are already eight (8) active faults
recorded, the fault manager will overwrite the current active fault with the lowest
odometer reading. The fault manager will attempt to move the overwritten fault
to the event history.
Active faults remain in the fault memory until cleared using the diagnostic blink
codes or an off-board diagnostic tool such as the Bendix
®
ACOM™ diagnostic
software.
