INSTALLATIONINSTRUCTIONS
1. InstallTankPurgeValvebetweentheexpansiontankandthesys-
temsothatthedrainvalveisbetweentheexpansiontankandthe
isolationvalve.(Theunionconnectionisinstalledonthetank).The
TankPurgeValveshouldbeinstalledsothatboththedrainvalve
handleandtheisolationvalvehandlesareeasyaccessible.Refer
toFigure1.FortypicalinstallationdrawingsrefertoFigure2and3.
2. ForinstallingSweatConnections:
a) Cleantubeendsandvalveconnectionsthoroughlypergoodpip-
ingpracticeswithafinegradeemeryclothorfinegritsandpaper.
b) For soldering, use 95-5 (Tin-Antimony) solder and a good
gradeofflux.
c) Useatorchwithasharppointedflame.
d) Whensweatingthejoints,firstadjustthevalveinthefullopen
position, then wrap the valve with a cool wet rag and then
directtheflamewithcaretoavoidsubjectingthevalvetoexces-
siveheat.Allowthevalvetocoolbeforetouchingoroperating.
e) Checkthesolderedconnectionforleaks.
3. ForinstallingNPTconnections:
Applypipecompoundconservativelytomaleconnectingfittingsonly.
Afterinstallationcheckalljointsforleakageandretightenwherenecessary.
OPERATIONINSTRUCTIONS
1. Todrainthetankfirstclosetheisolationvalvebymovingthehan-
dle one quarterofa turn until the handle isperpendicular to the
valveandpiping.Allowthetanktocoolto100°F(38°C).
2. Removethecapfromthe
5
/8"drainonthedrainvalveandconnect
a
5
/8"gardenhoseontothedrainvalve.
3. Movethehandleofdrainvalveonequarterofaturnuntilitisinline
withthevalvebodyandsystempiping.
To return the Tank Purge Valve to the operating position turn the
drain valve handle until it is perpendicular to the valve body and
replacethecapontothedrain.Movethehandleoftheisolationvalve
onequarterofaturnuntilitisinlinewiththevalvebodyandsystem
piping.
SERVICEINSTRUCTIONS
Periodically inspect the Tank Purge Valves for signsofcorrosionor
leakage. If steam leakage is observed the brass hex packing nut
shouldbetightenedslightlyuntilleakstops.Iftighteningthepacking
nutdoes notstop theleakorsignsof leakageare notedelsewhere,
theTankPurgeValvemustbereplaced.
WARNING: Use of improper procedures to sweat valve
modelwithunionconnectionintosystemcandamagevalve.
Before sweating valve connection, remove the union nut and
O-ringfromthe valvebody.Failureto followthisinstructioncould
resultinpropertydamageand/ormoderatepersonalinjury.
CAUTION: Heat associated with the use of silver solder
may damage a Tank Purge Valve and voids the product
warranty.Donot usesilver solder. Failureto followthese instruc-
tions could result in property damage and/or moderate personal
injury.
CAUTION: TheuseofPTFEimpregnatedpipecompound
andPTFEtape onpipe threads provideslubricity. Care
shouldbetaken topreventovertighteningwhichmaydamagethe
valvebody.Failuretofollowtheseinstructionscanresultinmoder-
atepersonalinjuryand/orpropertydamage.
WARNING: Itispossible,dependingontheageorcondition
ofthedrainvalvestemseal,forsomeliquidtoescapewhen
closingthevalve.Donothaveeyesorfacedirectlyunderneaththe
valve. Failure to follow these instructions could result in serious
personalinjury.
WARNING: Corrosion or leakage are indications that the
shutoff valvemaybe about to cause seriousdamage. The
Union ended valve must be replaced. Failure to follow these
instructions could result in serious personal injury or death and
propertydamage.

1. Tankconnectionlocationsmayvarydependingonthetypeoftank
tobeinstalled.
2. Provideananti-thermosyphonloopwithaminimumdropof12"to
preventgravityheatingofthetank.
3. Figures 2 and 3 show where a tee would be located if multiple
expansiontanksareinstalled.
