Configuration of a compressed air system
Compressed air systems consist of
three main elements:
generation
distribution, and
consumption (points of use).
The distribution system is divided into:
the main pipe,
distribution pipes, and
connecting pipes.

A number of manufacturers today offer
modern compressor stations as compre-
hensive solutions tailored to the custom-
ers specific requirements. This includes
ensuring the necessary air quality as well
as regulating the amount of compressed
air, the time when it is supplied, and the
desired operating pressure.
Compressed air generation is divided
into:
air compression,
treatment, and
storage.
During the first stage, the air is com-
pressed by compressors belonging either
to the group of positive displacement
compressors or dynamic compressors.
Positive displacement compressors
comprise rotary compressors and piston
compressors. Dynamic compressors
convert motion, i.e., kinetic energy into
pressure energy (aircraft engine).
