BEHR®
WATER-BASED PRE STAIN CONDITIONER is a clear sealer designed to promote uniform stain application on soft woods,
such as pine, fir, birch and maple. Generally, softer woods accept stain in varying degrees creating an uneven and blotchy
appearance. This product helps to minimize the variation and prepares wood surfaces for staining with water-based stains.
RECOMMENDED USES:
Ideal for properly prepared interior
bare or stripped wood surface s prior to applying BEHR Water-Based Wood Stains.

APPLICATION:
Stir thoroughly before using. Do not shake or thin. Use a nylon
or nylon/polyester brush or a saturated clean cloth and apply
liberally to all areas of the wood surface including edges. Allow
to penetrate for 5 to 10 minutes, then remove any excess with
clean, dry cloth. Apply BEHR Water-Based Wood Stain or BEHR
Water-Based Stain & Poly In One. Allow Pre Stain to dry for 20
minutes before applying Wood Stain. Sand lightly prior to
staining to remove grain raise.

CAUTIONS/LIMITATIONS:

Protect from freezing.

Not for use with oil-based stains. For oil-based stains pre-
treat wood with BEHR OIL-BASED PRE STAIN WOOD
CONDITIONER.
• Shelf life under normal conditions is 2 years unopened.
All surfaces must be clean, free of dust, oil, grease, wax, polish
and all other foreign substances.
New Wood: Sand the wood thoroughly with medium grit
sandpaper and progress to fine grit sandpaper. Always sand in
the direction of the wood grain. Sand smooth and remove all
dust dust prior to stain application.
Previously Finished Wood: Strip the surface completely down
to bare wood with a paint or varnish remover such as BEHR®
PREMIUM Wood Stain & Finish Stripper No. 64, making sure all
previous finishes are removed. Surface must be sanded smooth
and remove all dust prior to stain application.
WARNING! If you scrape, sand or remove old paint, you may
release lead dust. LEAD IS TOXIC. EXPOSURE TO LEAD DUST
CAN CAUSE SERIOUS ILLNESS, SUCH AS BRAIN DAMAGE,
ESPECIALLY IN CHILDREN. PREGNANT WOMEN SHOULD ALSO
AVOID EXPOSURE. Wear a NIOSH-approved respirator to
control lead exposure. Clean up carefully with a HEPA vacuum
and a wet mop. Before you start, find out how to protect
yourself and your family by contacting the National Lead
Information Center at 1-800-424-LEAD or log on to
www.epa.gov/lead.
CLEAN-UP/DISPOSAL:
Clean all tools and equipment with warm, soapy water. Do
not dispose of this product down a drain. If spilled, contain
material and remove with an inert absorbent. Dispose of
contaminated absorbent, container and unused produc in
accordance with all current federal, state and local
regulations. For recycling or disposal of empty containers,
unused product and soiled rags, contact your household
refuse collection service.
GENERAL INFORMATION:
CAUTION IRRITANT CONTAINS: ISOTHIAZOLONE. MAY
CAUSE AN ALLERGIC SKIN REACTION AND EYE, SKIN, NOSE AND
THROAT IRRITATION. AVOID CONTACT WITH SKIN AND EYES AND
AVOID BREATHING VAPORS AND SPRAY MIST. WEAR EYE
PROTECTION AND PROTECTIVE CLOTHING. USE WITH ADEQUATE
VENTILATION. To avoid breathing vapors and spray mist, open
windows and doors or use other means to ensure fresh air entry
during application and drying. If you experience eye watering,
headaches or dizziness, increase fresh air. If properly used, a
respirator (NIOSH-approved for organic vapor with P series
particulate pre-filter) may offer additional protection; obtain
professional advice before using. A dust mask does not provide
protection against vapors. Avoid contact with eyes and skin. Wash
thoroughly after handling. Close container after each use. FIRST
AID: If you experience difficulty in breathing, leave the area to
obtain fresh air. If continued difficulty is experienced, get medical
assistance immediately. In case of eye contact, flush immediately
with plenty of water for at least 20 minutes and get medical
attention; for skin, wash thoroughly with soap and water. If
swallowed, get medical attention immediately. CAUTION: KEEP
OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN-DO NOT TAKE INTERNALLY.
