BEHR® Chalk Decorative Paint is an easy way to create a unique and trendy look for your next paint project. This simple two-step paint
and wax process allows your personal style and vision to come to life, whether you’re looking for an aged antique look or prefer more
of a vintage modern air. The wide variety of BEHR colors, paired with BEHR Decorative Waxes, make every application completely
tailored to achieve the one-of-a-kind look you desire. BEHR® Chalk Decorative Paint can be applied over most existing surfaces with
very little surface preparation and delivers a smooth at nish. Perfect for refreshing old and new wooden furniture, cast stone,
concrete, and even metal surfaces to create one-of-a-kind accent pieces.

COVERAGE RATE
Up to 150 Sq. Ft./Quart depending on application method,
number of coats, and substrate porosity.
APPLICATION
• Shake the container thoroughly before opening for application.
• Use on properly prepared surfaces.
• Use product when the surface and air temperatures are
between 50-90°F and will remain in that range for at least
4 hours after applying.

Thinning:
This product is formulated to be rich and concentrated to provide
excellent hide and coverage. If you nd this product to be too
thick, add up to 2 oz. of water per quart to thin it to the desired
thickness for smooth and easy application.
DRY TIME:
@ 77°F and 50% RH:
Darker colors may require additional dry time between coats.
Cooler temperatures or higher humidity may prolong drying time.

SURFACE PREPARATION
• All surfaces must be clean, free of dust, chalk, oil, grease, wax,
polish, mold and mildew stains, loose and peeling paint, rust
and all other foreign substances.
• Remove all dust with a damp cloth and allow to dry.
Use BEHR Chalk Decorative Paint on properly prepared
uncoated or painted interior surfaces.
• For wood that contains tannins, such as Redwood and Cedar,
a coat of primer such as BEHR PREMIUM PLUS® Multi-Surface
Primer & Sealer No. 436 is recommended.

For improved adhesion, prime all uncoated metal, cast stone
and concrete surfaces before painting.
Glossy Surfaces:
For maximum adhesion, sand the surface thoroughly before coating.
New Wood:
Remove mill glaze with sandpaper. Set nails and ll holes,
scratches, and gouges with the appropriate wood ller and
let dry completely. Remove all dust with a wiping cloth. Fill all
gaps with a 100% acrylic, siliconized, paintable caulking, and
allow to completely dry prior to coating.
Previously Painted Wood:
Remove all loose and peeling paint and all other foreign
substances. Clean any dirt and grease by scrubbing the surface
with a detergent and water solution, followed by a thorough
rinsing with clean water. Set nails and ll holes, scratches, and
gouges with the appropriate wood ller and let dry completely.
Remove all dust with a tack or wiping cloth. Fill all gaps with
a 100% acrylic, siliconized, paintable caulking, and allow to
completely dry prior to coating.
Wood:
WARNING! Sanding or scraping pressure treated lumber may
be hazardous; wear appropriate protection.
Ferrous and Non-Ferrous Metal:
The oil lm on new non-ferrous metal must be removed before it
is painted. Remove oil lm with a detergent and water solution.
For better paint adhesion, sand the surface with sandpaper, steel
wool, or by using a product such as BEHR PREMIUM® Concrete
& Masonry Cleaner & Etcher No. 991. Clean by scrubbing the
surface with a detergent and water solution, followed by a
thorough rinsing with clean water.
Metal:
Remove all rust and mill scale using sandpaper, steel wool, abrasive
blasting, or other abrading methods to create a prole on the
metal’s surface. New Surfaces: Clean the metal by scrubbing
the surface with a detergent and water solution, followed by a
thorough rinsing with clean water. Bare metal must be primed
the same day it is cleaned.
