ATB 46e – revised December 2001 5
Service information
Electric drive motor
Electric drive motor (item 7.): The electric drive motor
used on the ATB 46e is a special motor designed for use
on this machine.
Do not replace the drive motor with any other type of
electric motor except for factory authorized replacement
motors. Standard electric motors will not work.
Hydraulic oil reservoir
Hydraulic oil reservoir (item 8.): The fluid level should be
between the low and full marks on the sight gauge indi
-
cator and should be checked with all cylinders fully re
-
tracted and the platform in stowed position.
The interior of the reservoir should be wiped out and
cleaned each time the hydraulic oil is changed. The res
-
ervoir filler/breather cap should be removed and the cap
breather cleaned yearly with Kerosene, Fuel Oil, or
other solvent.
Any time the hydraulic oil is changed or added, it is abso
-
lutely necessary that only clean hydraulic oil is used.
Note:
If it becomes necessary to add or use an oil other
than the recommended fluid, it is important that it be
compatible and equivalent to the factory fill. Local oil
suppliers can generally furnish this information.
If questions still remain, contact Snorkel Customer Ser-
vice Department, St. Joseph, Missouri, for further infor-
mation.
Return filter
Return filter (item 9.): The hydraulic oil return filter is
mounted in the right hand tray assembly.
The filter element is a throwaway type filter and should
be changed after the initial break-in period (approxi
-
mately 50 hours operation time).
The filter condition should be checked at the 90 day or
150 hour Preventive Inspection Maintenance interval or
more frequently under extreme working conditions.
The filter is equipped with a hydraulic pressure gauge to
indicate the filter element condition.
A by-pass relief within the filter base is provided and is
set to by-pass at 25 PSI. If pressure readings are above
25 PSI, the filter should be changed.
The filter condition indicator is accurate only when the
machine is running at maximum RPM and the pump is
discharging maximum flow, which occurs only during full
speed driving.
This requires that the indicator be observed while the
unit is in motion, booms fully retracted and in stowed po
-
sition, and the machine set for low speed drive. The oil
temperature should be at least 90° F.
Use extreme caution while observing the condition indi
-
cator because of the motion of the drive wheels. The
condition indicator is best observed from outside the
track of the vehicle wheels to avoid a possible unsafe
condition.
When changing the filter element, the oil inside of the fil
-
ter element, should be examined for deposits of metal
cuttings, which if present, could indicate excessive wear
in some of the system components.
Suction filter
Suction filter (item 10.): A 100 mesh suction filter is lo
-
cated within the hydraulic oil reservoir and filters the
pump suction flow.
The filter is cleanable and should be cleaned at the time
interval shown in the maintenance schedule chart, us
-
ing Kerosene, Fuel oil or other solvent and a soft bristled
brush.
Inspect the filter for damage to wire cloth. Holes in the fil
-
ter cloth leak dirt into the pump and other vital hydraulic
components. If the filter element is damages, replace.
When the filter has been thoroughly cleaned, reinstall
the filter on the suction line and tighten securely.
Platform rotator
Platform rotator (item 11.): The platform rotator required
lubrication only if disassembled for repairs.
Consult the factory for proper lubricant is replacement of
the platform rotator is required.
Emergency power battery
Emergency power battery (item 12.): ATB 46e machines
are equipped with a 12 volt battery for use in an emer
-
gency situation if the main battery power should fail.
This battery should be maintain as outlined in the Bat
-
tery care and maintenance section that follows.
Batteries
Batteries (item 13.): The battery and battery cables
should be checked to assure that the connections are
tight and free of corrosion. Fluid level should be main
-
tained to assure that the battery will maintain proper
charge.
Check specific gravity of battery per maintenance
schedule.
