Installing Memory
007-5782-001 43
Note 1: Manufacturing does not mix DIMM vendors on a node board. If DIMM vendor A is
installed on a node board, all DIMMs installed on that node board will be from DIMM vendor A.
Different node boards can have different DIMM vendors. Boards with mixed DIMM vendors have
been tested without problems.
Note 2: The speed of the memory controller will reduce to the lowest speed DIMM on the
channel.
Note 3: Nehalem Processors Only—The maximum speed of the memory controller changes
based on the number of DIMMs placed on the channel:
• With three DIMMs on the channel, the maximum speed supported is 800 MT/s.
• With two DIMMs on the channel, the maximum speed supported is 1066 MT/s.
• With one DIMM on the channel, the maximum speed supported is 1333 MT/s.
Note 4: Westmere Processors Only—The maximum speed on the memory controller is reduced
when three DIMMs are placed on a channel:
• With one or two DIMMs on the channel, the maximum speed supported is 1333 MT/s.
• With three DIMMs on the channel, the maximum speed supported is 800 MT/s.
See Table 5-1 for the recommended DIMM configurations that will achieve the maximum
memory performance.
Memory DIMM configurations that are described in Table 5-2 will run with degraded
performance.
Note: The minimum compute blade memory size is 4GB. The minimum compute memory size
is 8GB if the compute blade is in a system running SGI Management Center software.
