o The edges of the cooker hood are sharp – be mindful of this as you handle your appliance, especially during installation and cleaning. DO NOT CLEAN IN BEHIND THE GREASE FILTER! o If the room where the cooker hood is to be used contains a fuel burning appliance such as a central heating boiler then its flue must be of the sealed or balanced flue type. o If other types of flue or appliances are fitted, ensure that there is an adequate supply of air in the room.
o Remember that when in extraction mode, your cooker hood is removing air from your room. Ensure that proper ventilation measures are being observed. o Note that the cooker hood removes odours from your room, not steam. o Warning - Always ensure that the cooker hood has been disconnected from the power supply before carrying out any work on the hood, including cleaning and replacing light bulbs.

Carbon filter replacement reminder o If your cooker hood is operating in recirculation mode, then a carbon filter will need to be fitted. o After approximately 120 hours of operation, a “C” will flash on the LED display when you switch the cooker hood on. o You should follow the “Fitting the carbon filters” section on pages 16 – 17. o Once the carbon filter has been replaced, then without the hood being switched on, you should press and hold the increase speed button for longer than five seconds.
Cleaning your Baumatic cooker hood IMPORTANT: BEFORE CLEANING, ALWAYS ENSURE THAT YOU HAVE SWITCHED YOUR COOKER HOOD OFF AT THE OMNI-POLAR SWITCH, SET AT THE WALL FROM THE MAINS CABLE. Cleaning o Clean the external parts of your cooker hood with mild liquid detergent and a new damp cloth. o Never use abrasive powder, corrosive solvents or brushes. o Never insert pointed objects into the motor’s protective grid.
Maintenance Removing and cleaning the grease filter IMPORTANT: BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO CLEAN THE GREASE FILTER, YOU MUST ENSURE THAT YOU HAVE DISCONNECTED THE COOKER HOOD FROM YOUR MAINS SUPPLY. o Lift up the cover screen and then remove the grease filter by pulling down on the handle. Next pull the grease filter away from the main body of the cooker hood. o Soak the grease filter in hot water and washing up liquid for about an hour. o Rinse it off thoroughly with hot water. o Repeat the process if required.
Changing a light bulb IMPORTANT: BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO CHANGE A LIGHT BULB, YOU MUST ENSURE THAT YOU HAVE DISCONNECTED THE COOKER HOOD FROM YOUR MAINS SUPPLY. o Prior to touching the light bulbs ensure they are cooled down. o Find the bulb that requires replacement, you will find it located in the light fixture which is on the underneath of the cooker hood. o Using a flat tipped screwdriver, remove the cover that goes over the halogen bulb. Take out the bulb and insert a new G4 12V 20W (max) bulb.
Fitting the carbon filter If the appliance is going to be used in recirculation mode then it is necessary to fit a carbon filter. This will help to absorb unpleasant odours caused by cooking. IMPORTANT: BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO FIT OR REMOVE THE CARBON FILTER, YOU MUST ENSURE THAT YOU HAVE DISCONNECTED THE COOKER HOOD FROM YOUR MAINS SUPPLY. 1) Remove the grease filter. 2) You will see the motor and a rectangular opening. 3) Place the carbon filter over the rectangular opening, covering the motor.
5) Squeeze the clips on one side of the carbon filter, until it clicks firmly into place. o To remove the carbon filter in future, you will need to press the clips and then pull the carbon filter downwards away from the rectangular opening. Installation IMPORTANT: Before installation read all the instructions and make sure that the voltage (V) and the frequency (Hz) indicated on the rating plate are exactly the same as the voltage and frequency in your home.
Electrical connection YOUR COOKER HOOD IS INTENDED FOR FITTED AND PERMANENT INSTALLATION. o If not supplied the power cable must be connected to the terminals marked L (live) and N (neutral) in the hood and fixed with a cable clamp. o The cooker hood’s power cable must be fitted upstream from the electrical connection, using an omni-polar switch with a contact distance of at least 3 mm. WARNING: THIS APPLIANCE MUST NOT BE EARTHED.
Before beginning installation o Check that the product purchased is of a suitable size for the chosen installation area. In addition check whether there is an electrical socket available that will be accessible once the hood is mounted. If the product is going to be used in extraction mode, then there should also be space to connect a ducting hose to the outside. o Carry out all necessary masonry work prior to the fitting of the cooker hood.
Installing your cooker hood IMPORTANT: YOU WILL HAVE TO DECIDE BEFORE INSTALLING YOUR COOKER HOOD WHETHER TO USE IT IN EXTRACTION MODE OR RECIRCULATION MODE. PLEASE TURN TO PAGE 28 NOW TO UNDERSTAND THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THESE TWO MODES. o The cooker hood should not be exposed to a direct heat source from the cooking device underneath it, i.e. naked flame from a gas burner or heat from electric hob zones without a pan on them. o We recommend that two people install this hood.
1) Remove the metal grease filter. 2) Identify the securing plate shown in the diagram opposite. Please note that in future diagrams the securing plate will be shown with squared ends, however the one supplied with the ISL4SS is as shown in this diagram. IMPORTANT- THE SECURING PLATE MUST BE INSTALLED THIS WAY UP WHEN BEING PLACED AGAINST THE CEILING. 3) Place the securing plate against the ceiling in the position where you want the hood to hang.
3a) IMPORTANT: The securing plate will only secure to the frame in one position (see diagram 3a). You should position the securing plate on the ceiling so that when the frame (and eventually the cooker hood) are fixed to it, the control panel will face the direction that you require. 4) Using a drill bit with a 6 mm diameter, make holes in the ceiling on the positions that you marked in step 2. o Insert rawl plugs into all of the holes that you have drilled.
5) Take the 4 corner pieces and using a screwdriver; securely tighten one corner piece to each corner of the cooker hood’s motor. 6) Take the 4 frame sections and then screw through them into the bracket which connects them together. The bracket should be fixed approximately halfway down the frame sections, although some minor adjustment may be required depending on your specific installation needs.
o IMPORTANT: Make sure that you screw through the same hole on each frame section; otherwise the bracket will not be level. o IMPORTANT: Please take care to make sure that the clip on each frame section faces the direction shown in the diagram below. They must face outwards to be able to locate over the cut outs in the securing plate, later in the installation.
IMPORTANT: From this step onwards, the hood must be fully supported from underneath UNTIL step 9 has been completed and the cooker hood is fully secured to the framework. 8) Lift the cooker hood fully upwards to the inside of the securing plate and then slide it over. Feed the electrical cable through the circular hole on the securing plate, so it can be connected to your mains supply after the rest of the installation process has been completed.
9) With a screwdriver, fasten the frame to the securing plate on each corner. You must make sure that these screws are tightened fully. 10) Raise the upper chimney section upwards towards the securing plate. With a screwdriver, fasten the upper chimney section to the end of the triangular section on either side of the securing plate. You must make sure that these screws are tightened fully.
Connecting to external ducting o Connect the coupling to the top of the cooker hood motor, using the screws provided. o Connect a 125 mm ducting hose to a discharge outlet that is suitable for cooking vapours. It should have a cross section of at least 150 cm² (please note that the ducting hose is not supplied with the appliance but is available from the Baumatic Spares Department). o The maximum distance between the coupling and your discharge outlet should be 3 metres, with one 90 degree bend.
Completing the installation If you are setting the appliance to recirculation mode, then you should now fit the carbon filter. See the “Fitting the carbon filter” section on pages 16 - 17. The electrical connection must correspond to the electrical requirement noted on the rating plate, which is placed inside the cooker hood. The appliance should now be connected to the electrical supply. See page 17 - 18 for detailed information on the electrical connection.
Troubleshooting IMPORTANT: If your cooker hood appears not to be operating properly, before contacting the Baumatic Service Department, please refer to the checklist below. My cooker hood will not start. o Check that the hood is connected to the power supply and whether you have selected any of the fan speeds. My cooker hood is not working effectively. o Check that fan speed is set to an appropriate setting. o Check that the grease filter is not dirty and if it requires cleaning.
