When the battery is charged the ORANGE light will change to GREEN. Once charged, switch off at the wall outlet and unplug.
Usage Your BATRIBIKE Electric Bicycle can be used as a normal pedal cycle by simply not switching on the battery.
ELECTRIC BICYCLE FUNCTIONS Switching On To use under electric power, plug in the battery with the blue plug located on the end of the battery beneath the rear of the seat. Then press the POWER button on the handlebar LCD display. Initial Display The display will initially show all of its indicators as part of the self-test routine, followed briefly by the wheel size current settings. (See separate section for calibration information).
Battery Meter The LCD shows the charge remaining in the battery in the upper left of the display. The indicators will gradually go out as the battery power is used up. Refer to the table below for details.
Speed Display The upper right corner of the LCD will normally display the current speed of the bicycle. This can be set to Miles per Hour (MPH) or Kilometres per Hour (KMH). The display is accurate to about 10% when the wheel size is correctly calibrated and the tyre inflated as per the manufacturers recommendations. To change from MPH to KMH or vice versa, press the SET and DOWN buttons together and hold for 10 seconds. (Until the MPH or KMH indicator flashes).
Wheel Size Setting It is important to set the correct wheel size to calibrate the display so that reasonably accurate speed and distance can be shown. The GRANITE and DIAMOND models are supplied with 26” wheels and are set to 26.2/2133 when they leave the factory. The QUARTZ model is supplied with a 20” wheel and has been set to 20.2/1590 prior to leaving the factory.
Pedal Assistance There are 6 levels of pedal assistance available from the motor. Using the UP and DOWN buttons you can select from level 1, (LOW) to level 6, (HIGH). The motor will then be activated upon pedalling. There is a rotation sensor located near the crank which senses when the pedals are being used. The speed and power will vary as the level is changed. Refer to the table below for a guide. PEDAL ASSISTANCE FROM THE MOTOR LEVEL PERFORMANCE * EXAMPLE OF USAGE 28 Miles 15.
No Assistance—Normal Pedal Bicycle If the Assistance level is set to 0, (ZERO) then the motor will not be turned on. Your BATRIBIKE will now act and feel like a normal bicycle. This is useful when you are feeling fit at the start of a journey or using your bike for exercise purposes. Power is still only a button press away. Using the Twist Grip Throttle—Country Specific To activate the throttle, select AUTO mode. The AUTO indicator will be displayed.
Launch Assist If you want help in setting off on inclines or to get a smooth getaway at junctions and traffic lights, there is a system available whereby the motor can be applied even when no assistance is selected. This is known as Launch Assist and is activated by holding down the UP button for 2 seconds. The motor will be switched on in low speed and will continue on until the UP button is released. The bicycle will be powered at approximately 4 MPH, 6 KMH.
CYCLE COMPUTER The LCD models have several useful Cycle Computer functions built in. There is a built in sensor and pickup located in the rear hub which activates the speed and distance readings. TOTAL DISTANCE The default display mode will show the TOTAL DISTANCE travelled by the bike. This cannot be reset to zero by the user. Depending on the units selected, the display will read in Miles or Kilometres.
TRIP TIME When the TRIP TIME icon is selected the lower right of the display will show the time spent cycling since the last reset. This will show in hours and minutes. MAXIMUM SPEED When the MAXIMUM SPEED icon is selected the lower right of the display will show the maximum speed reached since the last reset. This will display in Miles or Km depending on the units selected. Rolling Display Mode The display can be set to “roll” through the above values automatically.
STANDARD BICYCLE FUNCTIONS Gears The DIAMOND, GRANITE & QUARTZ are provided with 7 speed Shimano gears. To change gear you use the right handlebar mounted selector. Gear number 1 is low for hills and rough terrain and gear 7 is high for normal road use. To increase the gear simply press the + button with your right thumb.
