Explanation of Symbols, Inscriptions
The lightning symbol indicates a health hazard, e.g. electric shock.
This symbol indicates speci c risks associated with handling, function and use.
The “arrow” symbol indicates special tips and operating information.
The product is suitable for installation and use in dry indoor spaces only; it must not become moist
or damp.
Use only a “self-shielded” bulb as the light source (e.g. please pay attention to the label on the
bulb’s packaging).
The ceiling-mounted light xture and the light bulb should not be embedded in insulation
material during installation and operation, risk of overheating and re!
You should not use a “cool beam” bulb in the ceiling-mounted light xture, risk of over-
heating and re!
0.5m
Keep a minimum distance between the light opening and the illuminated areas (e.g., easily
ammable objects such as curtains or similar). The appropriate minimum distance is speci-
ed on the ceiling-mounted ring (in the illustration to the left, the minimum distance is 0.5 m).
Observe the operating instructions!
Safety Instructions
Read the complete operating manual carefully before using the product, as it contains
important information about the correct installation and operation.
The warranty will be void in the event of damage caused by failure to observe these safety
instructions! We do not assume any liability for any resulting damage!
We shall not accept liability for damage to property or personal injury caused by incorrect
handling or non-compliance with the safety instructions! The warranty will be void in such
cases!
Caution!
The product may be installed only by a quali ed technician (e.g. electrician) who is familiar
with the applicable regulations (e.g. VDE, German electrical wiring regulations)!
Improper work carried out at the mains voltage endangers not only your life but also the
life of others!
If you do not have the expertise required for the installation, do not install it yourself but
entrust the work to a quali ed electrician.
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
Version 06/13
a) General
Unauthorised conversion and/or modi cation of the product is not allowed for safety and
approval reasons (CE).
The product is not a toy and should be kept out of the reach of children. Children are unable to
assess the dangers involved when dealing with electric devices.
If it can be assumed that safe operation is no longer possible, the device must be turned off
(take out corresponding fuse or switch off automatic cut-out, switch off corresponding ground
fault circuit interrupter) and precautions are to be taken to ensure that it is not used uninten-
tionally. After this, arrange for an expert to check the product.
Safe operation can no longer be assumed if:
- the product shows visible signs of damage
- The product does not work at all or works poorly (where there is ickering light, leaking smoke
or a burning smell, audible crackling noises, or discolouration to the product or to adjacent
surfaces)
- the product was stored under unfavourable conditions
- it was exposed to heavy loads during transport
In commercial institutions, the accident prevention regulations of the Employer’s Liability
Insurance Association for Electrical Systems and Operating Facilities are to be observed.
Do not leave packaging material carelessly lying around, since it could become a dangerous
plaything for children.
If you have any questions that are not answered in this manual, please contact our technical
service or another specialist.
b) Installation
The product may be installed and used only in dry indoor spaces; it must not get damp or wet!
There is a risk of a life-threatening electric shock!
Do not use this product in rooms or under adverse environmental conditions where combustible
gases, vapours or dust are or may be present! There is a risk of explosion!
Handle the product with care; it has sharp edges.
The product must be mounted out of the reach of children. The surfaces of the bulb and that of
the ceiling-mounted light xture grow very hot during operation; there is a high risk of burns!
The product must not be exposed to extreme temperatures, strong vibrations or heavy
mechanical stress.
When installing the ceiling-mounted light xture, make sure that the connecting cable is not
bent, jammed or damaged by sharp edges. Also, install the connecting cable in such a way that
it does not touch the bulb ( re hazard).
Install the product in such a way as to allow for a suf cient safety distance to ammable sur-
faces/materials (wood, carpets, cables, insulation material, etc.). The distance must be 10 cm
minimum on all sides. Never cover the product or the bulb.
Do not hang or attach objects (e.g. decorative material) to the light; this constitutes a re
hazard!
Before mounting the product on ammable surfaces (e.g. wooden ceilings), ask the respec-
tive manufacturer/seller whether the installation and the operation of the ceiling-mounted light
xture is possible under these conditions. If it is not possible, the ceiling-mounted light xture
must not be installed there.
The ceiling mounted light xture can be mounted in or on materials with unknown behaviour,
such as catching re, if it is guaranteed, through appropriate measures, that the temperature
on the mounting surfaces does not exceed 90 °C during normal operation and 115 °C in case
of a malfunction.
The radiant heat of the bulb (and the hot ceiling-mounted light xture) can, during operation,
affect the material and the colour of the surfaces. Either way, it is recommended, to check the
behaviour of surfaces at the installation site before the nal installation.
There must not be any heat insulation material in direct proximity of the ceiling-mounted light
xture and the bulb, as this causes heat to accumulate. Fire hazard!
Remove any heat insulation materials, keeping them at a distance of at least 10 cm.
The installation depth depends on the design of the bulb used, the power input and the material
qualities of the room ceiling (concrete/wood).
A certain minimum distance must be kept between the outlet of the light beam and the illumi-
nated areas. Please note the inscriptions on the ceiling-mounted ring and the chapter “Explana-
tion of symbols/inscriptions”.
c) Connection
The product may be operated only on the mains voltage (see section “Technical Data”). Never
try to operate the device using any other voltage.
During installation, all poles must be disconnected from the mains voltage (e.g. via RCD).
The product is designed according to Protection Class I; the protective earth conductor must be
connected.
If there is no mains supply provided with a protective earth conductor at the installation site,
the product must not be connected/used there. In this case, install a new voltage supply with a
protective earth wire.
Connection is allowed only in a zero-voltage condition. First, switch off the mains voltage to all
poles.
Make sure that all electrical connections and connection cables correspond to the regulations
and to their operating instructions.
Never use a bulb with a power consumption that is too high and exceeds the power rating
(for the maximum voltage, see “Technical Data”). Otherwise, this can cause overheating and
hence a re!
The product has a special lamp socket and temperature-resistant connecting cables. During
operation, the lamp socket and parts of the connecting cables heat up.
If you wish to use a dimmer, then make sure that it is suitable for the bulb used. Note that many
LED bulbs cannot be dimmed.
