Page 1
Introduction
This document describes the steps required to upgrade your 2G cell modem to a 3G cell modem
and re-establish your connection to BaseManager.
To upgrade your 2G cell modem to a 3G cell modem, you need to perform the following tasks:
Step 1Check the firmware version on your controller and install an update if necessary.
Step 2Uninstall the 2G cell modem hardware in your BaseStation 3200 pedestal.
IMPORTANT! Do not uninstall the 2G cell modem until you record the SIM number.
Step 3 – Install the 3G cell modem hardware in your BaseStation 3200 pedestal.
Step 4Activate your SIM card with Baseline.
Step 5Verify the cell modem connection in the controller.
IMPORTANT! If you have a Legacy BaseStation 3200 controller (firmware version 11.7.5.15 or
earlier), you must upgrade the controller to the V12 firmware before you upgrade the cell modem
to 3G. The V12 upgrade involves installing new firmware and applying a new faceplate label.
Baseline offers several methods for upgrading your controller. You can review the options on the
Support tab of the Baseline web site (www.baselinesystems.com/support.php). Click Firmware
Updates on the left, and then make sure the BaseStation 3200 V12 tab is selected.
If your controller or cell modem is in a C cabinet, contact Baseline Support at 866-294-5847 for
upgrade options.
Step 1Check Your Firmware Version & Update if
Necessary
BaseStation 3200 controllers running firmware version 12.18 and higher have integrated support
for 3G cell modem communication. If your controller is running an earlier firmware version, you will
need to update the firmware on your controller. You can either download a firmware update onto
a USB drive from the Baseline web site or you can update your controller through BaseManager.
To check the version of firmware on your BaseStation 3200 controller
On the BaseStation 3200, turn
the dial to the Advanced
position.
The version number of the
firmware displays at the bottom
of the screen.
