Before you start
General precautions This chapter contains instructions for installing the S
TELLAR
MPEG-2 decoder and
must be read to ensure correct installation. When handling the S
TELLAR
, you must
take the following precautions:
• Use proper precautions against ESD.
• Do not change a blown fuse before the line plug is pulled out.
The line power input is protected with fuses in the supply connectors.
• When the S
TELLAR
is DC-supplied, you must connect it to the DC source
through a distribution module or a bus bar being part of the rack.
• The wire size for the cable used to connect the S
TELLAR
to the DC distribution
module or bus bar must be minimum 2.0 mm
2
/14 AWG.
• The DC power supply must include a ≤15 A DC branch-protected UL-listed
fuse. This fuse must be placed in the negative wire in order to protect the rack
wiring and the power connector of the S
TELLAR
. We recommend a slow-blow
type of fuse in order to pass the in-rush current during power-up.
• If you use a floating DC power source, the positive terminal must be connected
to chassis and local earth ground to prevent building up of dangerous voltages.
The DC power supply input is floating with respect to chassis ground on the
S
TELLAR
.
Factory installed The S
TELLAR
is customer-specific and is delivered with the modules which the cus-
tomer has specified. All the ordered options and modules are installed at the factory.
Note! If, at a later date, you wish to add further options or modules you must
send the S
TELLAR
back to the factory and we will install them for you.
Note! Under no circumstances should non-BARCO personnel attempt to
install modules in the S
TELLAR
.
Unpacking the S
TELLAR
When unpacking the S
TELLAR
, examine the decoder, accessories, and packing mate-
rial for obvious signs of damage. Check the equipment against the delivery/packing
note. Retain the packing material as it is required for warranty shipments and for later
inspection by the carrier.
Note! Should any item be damaged or any equipment be missing, notify the
carrier and your BARCO representative.
The S
TELLAR
is ready for installation when you have ensured that all the equipment
you ordered has been received and no damage has occurred. However, before you
apply power to the S
TELLAR
we recommend that you read the section Safety and pre-
cautions in the section Preface.
