Overview
This document provides details on setting up a READCENTER server and client on a network. The
READCENTER server is responsible for storing data used for the meter reading process. The
READCENTER client(s) on the same network will be able to access this information to perform
tasks related to the meter reading process as well. A system diagram showing the server and
the clients is illustrated on the following page.
In the first section of this bulletin, the server configuration is described in more detail. Setting up
the server requires the use of SQL Server 2005 Tools - SQL Server 2005 Surface Area
Configuration and SQL Server Configuration Manager. These tools are installed by READCENTER
and they are required to allow remote connections to the READCENTER server. In addition,
READCENTER uses Windows
®
Authentication for the SQL Server mode. Mixed mode is also
supported in READCENTER but the procedure for setting this up is not covered in this bulletin.
The second section covers the steps for installing and setting up a READCENTER client. Only
those actively involved in the meter reading process need access to the data through
READCENTER so it is advisable to limit the number of clients.
Note: This document describes the server and client setup on Windows XP Professional SP2.
Similar steps also apply in Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008/2003 and Windows 2000
Professional SP4.
