ORION® Gas Endpoints, Integral Endpoint for American® Commercial Gas Meters ORION INTEGRAL ENDPOINT/HARDCASE GAS METER IDENTIFICATION ORION integral endpoints for gas meters are designed for use with American hardcase gas meters: Gas Meter Manufacturer: American® Meter American Gas Meter Models: AL-800, AL-1000, AL-1400, AL-2300, AL-5000 and GTS/GTX Turbine Meters INSTALLATION OF ORION INTEGRAL COMMERCIAL ENDPOINT This manual describes two types of ORION endpoint installations on an American gas meter.
Installation Manual AMERICAN COMMERCIAL DIAPHRAGM AND TURBINE METERS WITH WIRE SEAL SECURITY SCREW Index and Index Cover Plate Removal from American Meter with Seal Security Screw 1. Remove the wire security seal from the index cover mounting screw. Figure 1: Wire security seal 2. Use a large screwdriver to remove the four (4) 18-8 index cover mounting plate screws and American index. Discard the four screws. Figure 2: Remove screws on index cover mounting plate 3.
ORION® Gas Endpoints, Integral Endpoint for American® Commercial Gas Meters Adding Additional Labels If the utility chooses to add an additional label, follow the steps below. If not, see "Install The Orion Integral Endpoint And American Cover Plate" on page 9. Serial number label Figure 4: Serial number label 1. With a needle nose pliers pull the plastic cover plate down and off. See Figure 5. Figure 5: Remove plastic cover 2. Place a new serial number tag above the one on the endpoint.

Therefore, the wire seal is replaced with plastic seal caps provided in the kit.

When mounting an ORION integral endpoint to a gas meter make sure the endpoint drive pawl engages the gas meter drive pawl. These two drive pawls must mate without causing any binding or potential for disengagement. Test to ensure the pawls are engaged and moving freely. IIMPORTAN Placing endpoint on meter incorrectly may damage the output seal of the gas meter.
Installation Manual 5. Use four (4) 18-18 X 3-1/2 supplied mounting screws to attach the index, cover plate and ORION integral endpoint to the gas meter. Place two screws, with a washer on each, into two corners of the cover mounting plate. Washer Figure 13: Placement of screws with washer 6. Place two of the screws, without washers, through the white seal caps. Place them in the other two corners of the cover mounting plate. Figure 14: Placement of screw with white seal cap 7.
ORION® Gas Endpoints, Integral Endpoint for American® Commercial Gas Meters PROGRAM THE ORION INTEGRAL ENDPOINT Badger Meter uses a handheld programmer/data collector system to process and display screens. Figure 16: Sample handheld, IR read head and cable Please reference the Programming Guide for ORION gas endpoints and the manual for the handheld system. Programming Procedure To program the endpoint, align the IR port of the handheld optic read head with the endpoint IR port.
Installation Manual COMPLETE THE INSTALLATION After programming, add seal caps to the front and rear screws of the index cover plate. Only the front screw is shown below. Figure 18: Add seal caps on index cover plate If the index mounting seal caps were removed, replace them with the extra caps provided in the installation kit.

Remove the American index and mounting plate.

Use four (4) 18-18 X 3-1/2 supplied mounting screws and a washer on each to attach the index, cover plate, and ORION integral endpoint to the gas meter. Installation Manual Programming Procedure To program the endpoint, align the IR port of the handheld optic read head with the endpoint IR port. Figure 34: Line up the handheld IR port with the endpoint IR port COMPLETE INSTALLATION After programming, add seal caps to the front and rear index cover screws. Only the front screws are shown below. Figure 35: Add seal caps If the index mounting screw seal caps were removed, replace them with the extra caps provided in the installation kit.
