ORION® Gas Endpoints, Integral Endpoint for Itron®/Actaris® A-Series Commercial Gas Meters PRODUCT UNPACKING AND INSPECTION NNOTE: If damage to the shipping container is evident upon receipt, request the carrier to be present when the product is unpacked. Carefully open the shipping package, follow any instructions that may be marked on the exterior. Remove all cushioning material surrounding the product and carefully lift the product from the package.

Remove two (2) security seals from the index cover. Use a large screwdriver to puncture and remove the tamper plugs if they are present. Figure 2: Integral endpoint 2. Use a large screwdriver to remove the four (4) index cover screws. Set cover aside for reuse. Discard the four (4) screws. See Figure 3. Figure 3: Remove screws on cover 3.

If not, see "Assemble The Itron Index Into The Orion Adapter Plate" on page 10. Figure 5: ORION endpoint label placement 1. With a needle nose pliers pull the plastic cover plate down and off. Place the Itron index into the ORION adapter plate. Slide the index mounting tabs under the adapter plate. See Figure 11. Installation Manual ORION ENDPOINT ON THE GAS METER Use care when handling the ORION endpoint and Itron index to insure the drive pawls are not subjected to any physical abuse. Abuse may cause a spindle to become bent, misaligned or otherwise inoperative. 1. When mounting an ORION endpoint on a gas meter, make sure the endpoint drive pawl engages the gas meter drive pawl. These two drive pawls must mate without causing any binding or potential for disengagement. See Figure 14.
ORION® Gas Endpoints, Integral Endpoint for Itron®/Actaris® A-Series Commercial Gas Meters ORION SHAFT ADAPTER, ADAPTER PLATE AND ITRON INDEX ASSEMBLY ON AN ORION ENDPOINT 1. Place the shaft adapter on top of the endpoint pawl. Put one end of the shaft adapter onto one side of the pawl. See Figure 17. Figure 17: Shaft adapter placement 2. Be certain the index tab holes remain engaged with the locating posts. 6. Be sure the adapter plate alignment bushings engage the holes in the endpoint unit. See Figure 21. 7. Verify all pawls align. Turn the 2.5 feet wheel. It should move just a little.

Figure 23: Tighten screws on index cover PROGRAM THE ORION ENDPOINT Badger Meter uses a handheld programmer/data collector system to process and display screens. Figure 24: Sample handheld, IR read head and cable Please reference the Programming Guide for ORION gas endpoints and the manual for the handheld system.
Installation Manual Programming Procedure To program the endpoint, align the IR port of the handheld optic read head with the endpoint IR port. Figure 25: Align handheld IR port with endpoint IR port COMPLETE THE INSTALLATION After programming, place seal caps over two (2) of the index cover plate screws. See Figure 26. Figure 26: Replace seal caps This completes the installation of an ORION endpoint on an Itron Integral Commercial Diaphragm meter with seal caps.
