Maintaining Your Bamboo Fencing
Your bamboo fence is a great and eco-friendly way to decorate your home or property. And … a regular
maintenance schedule is the best way to protect your bamboo fence.

Bamboo is one of the strongest building materials on earth and is eco-friendly from a renewable resource. But
this also means that proper installation and care requires a higher level of attention than softer non-sustainable
woods.
Consider Sealing Your Fence Before Or After Installation
New Bamboo
● Wipe down fence to remove dust or other contaminants
● Clean fence with mild dish soap and water using a light bristle brush
● Rinse and wait 24 hours before applying
Cleaning Bamboo that is weathered or has mold
Recommended Materials:
● Cleaning Solutions: Combine ¾ parts water, ¼ parts bleach, or use any environmentally-friendly fence
cleaner available from your favorite hardware store: Simple Green™ or Olympic™ Premium Deck
Cleaner & Brightener
● Tools : Power Washer (If available) and Sandpaper
● Sealant: TWP® (Total Wood Protector) 300 Series – which includes fungicide and UV inhibitors.
Seal Your Fence Using TWP Series 300 Protector:
1. Spray bamboo liberally with cleaning solution.
2. Allow solution to soak in for 15-20 minutes.
3. Scrub surface with a nylon bristle brush and then wipe away loosened residue with a rag
4. Thoroughly rinse the bamboo fence with a power washer or hose.
5. Allow at least 2 days for the bamboo to air-dry completely.
6. For improved adhesion of the stain, use a rough cleaning pad (3M Scotch Brite®) or 120-150 sandpaper
to rough up surface. Wipe down to remove any dust.
7. Apply first coat of TWP weather-protectant containing fungicide and UV-inhibitor.
