1.3 What is DWG?
DWG (“drawing”) is a le format used for storing two and three di-
mensional design data and metadata. It is a native binary format for
AutoCAD and other Autodesk Products. Almost all of CAD Systems
are able to import DWG les.
DWG is the native and proprietary le format for AutoCAD® and a
trademark of Autodesk, Inc.
The .bak (drawing backup), .dws (drawing standards), .dwt (drawing
template) and .sv$ (temporary automatic save) les are also DWG les.
