All units with R in the model
number (1405 R) feature a 5th
port that is
used for re-circulation of indoor air. During extreme low
temperatures the
intake port shuts down periodically to protect the
core from freeze damage. The unit becomes an exhaust only system
with re-circulation during these periods. The homeowner also has
the ability to run the machine on re-circulation/exhaust mode
through the central control.

TIP: Use HRVs and ERVs to provide fresh air to the entire house while exhausting stale air. These are balanced ventilation
systems. In typical installations, fresh outside air is supplied to bedrooms and home offices while indoor air is exhausted
from bathrooms, exercise rooms and kitchens. See page 3 for installation tips and techniques.
Who is HVI?
The Home Ventilating Institute (HVI) is an independent testing
organization that certifies various specifications and characteristics
of ventilation equipment. All of the ventilation equipment that EFI
