The DT-700U is very useful when hand sanding. Of all steel
construction, with a generous 903 x 473mm table size and
protective rubber grommets, quite large items can be placed
onto this downdraft table. Internal baffles ensure equal air
movement over the entire table surface. A high volume
extractor of 1000 m³/hr minimum is recommended rather than
a vacuum type machine. Usefully, it can be stored on one end
when not in use.

Downdraft tables are an excellent method of capturing airborne
dust created when hand sanding items of furniture. Because the
air flow is downwards the dust is naturally drawn towards the
table surface which has a series of hollow rubber grommets all
it to protect other vunerable surfaces. The FT-1000 has a 375W
induction motor driving a large diameter impellor creating an
air movement of 3,060 m³/hr. This air flow is drawn through the
table surface and through a rear upstand inlet along the whole
width of the table. The rubber grommets on the surface protect
the work as well as providing an air gap under the work. Hinged
side upstands can be laid down to allow longer workpieces
to be mounted. There are two pleated filters to capture the
dust in front of the impellor, ensuring clean air returns into
the workshop, whilst a dust tray in the bottom of the cabinet
is easily drawn out for emptying. The FT-1600 model is simply
a large table, twin motored model, with twin filters as well to
allow a much higher airflow over the bigger table. Perfect for
hand sanding or power sanding all types of timbers, but you
should extract from power sanders at source. Easy to maintain
with no tools being required. Solidly built, these machines
provide a cleaner working environment and will be a boon in a
trade workshop.

This kit allows you to create your own downdraft table. You
just need to construct a box from 12mm ply or MDF (plans
included), add the table plates and dust port to create a small,
benchtop table. The finished size will be approximately 620
x 420 x 160mm. You could, of course, build larger tables by
purchasing multiple kits. A full set of 64 grommets and four
work supports are included with each kit. A suitable extractor is
required, either a 1,000m³ typical bag type with a fine filter or a
1,200W vacuum extractor as a minimum.
