This is a two part tool rest and grinding jig
designed for mounting directly to the bench
in front of either a 150mm(6”) or 200mm(8”)
bench grinder. The 4” (100mm) table will
straddle grinding wheels up to 1” (25mm)
wide and can be set to the required angle
using the setting gauge supplied. In the face
of the rest there is a slot into which the optional
straight grinding jig slides. This jig holds the tool
fi rmly in position whilst grinding in order to give a perfectly straight
edge. The positions of the jig clamping screws and the location pin
can be altered to cater for different widths of tool and for setting
a 30° angle for a skew chisel. The toolrest and the grinding jig can
be bought as separate items or, if preferred, as a pair with a useful
cost saving. As always with Veritas products this tool rest and its
accessories are well thought-out and immaculately produced, and
should prove to be of great use to the turner or general woodworker.

A solid cast iron pedestal stand suitable for almost
any bench grinder or other lightweight machine. It
comprises a three-legged base with securing holes at
the end of each foot, a heavy column and a substantial
mounting platform some 265mm by 185mm in size. For
use with Axminster and other makes of bench grinder.
Its use can be extended to larger machines by bolting
on a thick MDF top. Height is 810mm.

A dual-purpose machine, so perhaps it can be considered double
the value. The right hand side is fi tted with a 150mm by 20mm
white dry grinding wheel running at 2,950rpm and on the left
hand side is a gearbox which reduces the speed of the 200mm
by 40mm wide whetstone to 120rpm. The white wheel is used for
rough grinding, either to reform a bevel or for tools that do not
require such a fi ne edge whilst the whetstone running in a bath
of water guarantees that a sharp edge can be achieved without
any risk of overheating.
The upper edge of the water bath has a series of notches which
can be used to support the backs of knives, helping to maintain
a constant grinding angle. Chisels and plane irons are simply
supported on the straight top edge of the bath to set the
required grinding angle.

AWWSG Wetstone Grinder
The support bar is very similar to those fi tted to much more
expensive machines (Tormek/Jet etc). This allows you to use
some of their accessories and jigs allowing a greater degree of
accuracy when sharpening. With the 200mm by 40mm wetstone
running at 120rpm and running with the bottom third immersed
in water, this stone provides a sharp fi nish, achieved without risk
of overheating the tool edge. The 150mm by 20mm white wheel
runs at 2,950rpm for rough grinding. This machine provides a
low cost entry level introduction to the world of the sharp tool!
Supplied with a simple 60mm wide chisel holder, rubber feet, eye
shield and tool rest.

This is a heavy duty workshop grinder with plenty of power, good
design, 200mm diameter wheels and solid construction. The base is
200 x 320mm and has four fi xing points. The 900W induction motor
runs exceptionally smoothly and provides adequate power for all

This Axminster bench grinder is a super value-for-money
machine. It features the usual general purpose grey grinding
wheel on the left hand side whilst on the right is a 40mm wide 80
grit aluminium oxide white wheel, perfect for touching up edge
tools. This stone is wide enough to accommodate the majority
of carving, turning and general woodworking tools and, being
of aluminium oxide, is less likely to burn the edge of the tool.
The grinder is equipped with adjustable tool rests, spark guards,
NVR switch and eye shields. An excellent machine for any keen
