Whensettingtheinitialpassword,thepasswordissentincleartextoverthenetwork.Ifthereisariskofnetworksnifng,

rstsetupasecureandencryptedHTTPSconnectionbeforeresettingthepasswords.

Thedevicepasswordistheprimaryprotectionforthedataandservices.Axis’devicesdonotimposeapasswordpolicyasdevicesmay

beusedinvarioustypesofinstallations,buttoprotectyourdatadothefollowing:

•Don’tusethedefaultpasswordthatcomeswiththedevices.

•Useapasswordwithatleast8characters,preferablyusingapasswordgenerator.

•Don’texposethepassword.

•Changepasswordatarecurringinterval,atleastonceayear.

Thedefaultadministratorusernamerootcannotbedeleted.Ifthepasswordforrootislost,thedevicemustberesetto

thefactorydefaultsettings.

Thedefaultrootaccounthasfullprivilegesandshouldbereservedforadministrativetasks.Alwayscreateauseraccountwithlimited

privilegesfordailyuse.Thisreducestheexposureoftheadministrativeaccount.
