5.6 Local step p er axis - testing
This section describes the method for testing a local stepper axis. The stepper control is an open
loop system so no tuning is necessary. See section 5.5.3 for details about creating a stepper
axis.
5.6.1 Testing the output
This section tests the operation and direction of the output. It is recommended that the system is
initially tested with the motor shaft disconnected from other machinery.
1. Check that the Drive enable button is
pressed (down).
2. In the Toolbox, click the Edit & Debug icon.
3. Click in the Command window.
4. Type:
JOG(0)=2
where 0 is the ax is to be test ed and 2 is the
speed.
The JOG command s pec ifies the s peed in
user units per s ec ond, s o the speed is
affected by SCALEFACTOR (s ec tion 5.5.4). If you hav e not s elected a sc ale, the
command JOG(0)=2 will caus e rotation at only 2 half steps per sec ond, so it may be
neces sar y to incr eas e this figure s ignific ant ly, to 200 for example. If y ou hav e selec ted
a sc ale that pr ov ides user units of r ev olutions (as des c r ibed in s ec tion 5.5.4), JOG(0)=2
will cause rotat ion at 2 r ev olutions per s ec ond. If there appears to be no st ep or direction
output, check the electrical connec tions to the axis as s igned STEPx and D IR x outputs .
5. To repeat the tests for reverse moves, type:
JOG(0)=-2
6. To remove the demand and stop the test, type:
STOP(0)
