AccesspointswithadisabledSSIDBroadcastwillnotappearunlesstheAxisproductisassociatedwithit.Oncethewireless
connectionisestablished,thenetworktheAxisproductiscurrentlylinkedtoisshowninblue.Anetworkusingunsupported
securityisshowningrey.
WirelessSettings
Important
•Toestablishandmaintaincommunication,allwirelesssettingsmustbeexactlythesameintheAxisproductasinthe
accesspointorad-hocnetwork.
•AlwayscongureorchangethewirelesssettingsintheAxisproductrst,beforechangingthesettingsinthewireless
accesspoint.
•Keys,passphrasesandcerticatesthatareusedforsecuritymustbeenteredmanually.ContactyourNetworkAdministrator
fortherequirementsfortheselectedaccesspointorad-hocnetwork.
ThewirelesssettingscontrolhowtheAxisproductinteractswiththewirelessnetwork.Apartfromidentifyingthewirelessnetwork,it
isalsopossibletoenablewirelessencryption.
SelectEnablecongestioncontroltosecurethewirelessconnectionbetweentheAxisproductandaccesspointincongested
environments,forexamplewheretherearemanyavailablenetworksandwheremanydevicesareusingthesameaccesspoint.
CongestioncontrolusesaRequestToSend/ClearToSend(RTS/CTS)handshaketoreserveaccesstothewirelessmediabefore
transmittingapacket.Usingthehandshakedecreasesthroughputsinceitaddsanoverhead.Insomesituations,however,the
overheadoftheRTS/CTShandshakeislowerthantheoverheadcausedbycollisionsonthewirelessmedia.Congestioncontrolis
disabledbydefault.
SelectEnableWLANpairingbuttontoallowthewirelessAxisproducttoconnecttoanaccesspointbypushingabuttononboth
ofthedeviceswithina120secondtimewindow.Duringthistimethedeviceswillautomaticallydiscovereachotherandagree
onaconguration.
Makesuretheaccesspointalsohaspushbuttonconguration(PBC)enabledandthattheAxisproductisnotconnectedtothewired
network.AfterasuccessfulpairinganyWLANsettingssetbytheuserintheAxisproductareoverwritten.TheWLANpairingbutton
isenabledbydefault;deselectthisoptiontopreventunauthorizedWLANpairing.
SSIDisthenameoftheselectedwirelessnetwork,whichmustbeexactlythesameasthenameinthewirelessaccesspoint.Ifthe
eldisleftblanktheAxisproductwillnotconnecttoanywirelessnetwork.

Ifapplicable,selecttheNetworktype.SelectMastertoaccessthenetworkviaanaccesspointorAd-hoctoaccessanyother
wirelessdeviceandcreatealocalnetwork.
Ad-hocmodeallowsuserstoformawirelessLANwithoutconnectionthroughanaccesspoint.TheAxisproductcan,forexample,
connectpoint-to-pointtoanexistingad-hocnetwork,orifthereisnone,createoneitself.Ad-hocconnectionmaybeusefulin
certaininstallationsandfortroubleshootingbutisnottherecommendedmethod.Thead-hocoptionisonlyavailablewhen
supportedbytheselectedsecuritymethod.
