Choosing an Appropriate Method
Set the IP address using an appropriate method for your operating system from the table below:
Important!
Method Operating Systems Refer to...
AXIS IP Installer
Windows 95/98 and NT “
Using the AXIS IP Installer” on page
14
ARP
Requires the IP address for each new device to
be downloaded individually and is not appropri-
ate for use over routers.
Windows 95/98 and NT “Using ARP in Windows 95/98 and
Windows NT” on page 14
UNIX, OS/2 “Using ARP in UNIX and OS/2” on
page 15
RARP
Downloads the IP address to each device auto-
matically
requires a RARP daemon on your system
operates within a single network segment only.
UNIX Refer to Using RARP in UNIX, on
page 15.
BOOTP
Similar to RARP, although it can operate on the
entire network. It requires a BOOTP daemon
on your system.
A request made to an active BOOTP or RARP
daemon initiates a search of the Ethernet
address table (RARP daemon), or boot table
(BOOTP daemon) for an entry matching the
unit’s Ethernet address. If a matching entry is
found, the daemon then downloads the IP
address to the device
UNIX Refer to Using BOOTP in UNIX, on
page 16
Do not use the default or example IP address when installing your video server. Always consult your
Network Administrator before assigning an IP address.
