SNMP
You may use SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) for remote
monitoring of the NPS 530/532. All major functions applicable to print
servers are supported.
SNMP actually refers to a set of standards for network management,
including a protocol, a database structure specification, and a set of data
objects. The NPS 530/532 SNMP implementation runs in the TCP/IP
environment.
The actual management is handled by an NMS (Network Management
System) software running on a host on your network. The NMS software
communicates with network devices by the means of messages, which are
references to one or more objects.
An object can be a question or an instruction to a device, or an alarm
triggered by a specific event. Objects are contained in data bases called
MIBs (Management Information Base), where MIB-II is a standard
database.
The NPS 530/532 supports all relevant parts of MIB-II. It also includes a
private enterprise MIB (the AXIS MIB described in the NPS Print Server
Technical Reference).
