10.4 PROGRAM SERVICE NAME (PS)
10.4.1 SCOPE
The PS feature is intended to denote the Program Service Name. This name is not dynamic in nature but it can
changed when necessary. The difference between the implementation of the PS and RT features is that the PS
is always displayed on the receiver, while the RT message will be displayed only when the listener deems it safe
to do so. Dynamic PS may be a distraction to the drivers. For this reason, the RDS specification doesn’t provide
any provision for the dynamic use of the PS feature.
If the PS is constantly changed, it is possible that some receivers will display a mixture of old and new
PS message on the same display. In some cases, no PS will be displayed at all. This may occurs as
message byte group order is not univocally recommended by the CENELEC RDS standard and strictly
depends on the coder/decoder physical implementation. Neither the RDS encoder nor the car receiver
are faulty.
10.4.2 THE PROGRAM SERVICE NAME EDITOR
Click the PS button to access the main PS message window (Program Service Name).
PSN - Program Service Name is a text consisting of not more than eight alphanumeric characters which is
displayed by RDS receivers in order to inform the listener what programme service is being broadcast by the
station to which the receiver is tuned. An example for a PS name is "Radio 21".
The FALCON 15 PS panel allows You to broadcast single PS messages, PS sequences as well as PS
Scrolling messages.
