Typed in the Filter Field Results

Entering a string displays a filtered list of items that contain the ‘word’ (that is, it

willfind matching str ingsthat are followed by anything other than a letter or

number). For example, typing

emailwill list any items that contain the string

email, followed by a space or punctuation mark. If you enter multiple words sep-

ar ated by spacesbut w ithout logicaloperators, OR isassumed, and each word is

tr eated separately. For example, typing

email serverwill display items con-

taining email or server.

Surrounding the string with quotation marksdisplays a filter ed listof itemscon-

taining the exact string, including spacing and punctuation. For example, typing

"email server”willdisplayitemsthat contain email server. The DSView soft-

ware will provide a closing quotation mark if it is omitted.

Using the AND logicaloperator displaysthe itemsthat contain both str ings. For

example, typing

email and server will display items named email-ser ver-3,

email-server-2, server emailand so on.

Using the OR logical oper ator displays the items that contain at least one of the

strings. For example, typing

email or server will find any itemsthat contain

the string ema ilor the string server .

Parenthesesm ay be used to overr ide the default ( left to right) order of prec-

edence during evaluation of a filter string. F or example, searching for

and server or service

would be the equivalentof ((emailand server) or serv-

ice), w hich may not be the intended sear ch. The user may choose instead to

change the order of precedence by gr ouping the search terms with paren-

theses, such as

(email) and (server or service).

NOT <String>

Preceding the string w ith N OT displays allitemsthat do not contain the string.

For example, typing

not email will display all items except those containing

email (email, email server, email-server-1 and so on will not display) .
