44 Netware Connect for ISDN – 4 Configuration
l
Database and other applications should be configured so that they
only transmit actual user data over the ISDN line, while user-specific
temporary files are stored locally rather than on network drives.
l Ports can be reserved for specific remote workstations, or shared
among several remote computers.
PPP over ISDN
Auto-Framing
Auto-framing is currently not supported for incoming calls. For this reason,
all remote PPP users who want to dial in to NetWare Connect for ISDN must
be entered in the PPP CLI list (CLI = Calling Line Identification, the caller ID
transmitted over the ISDN D channel). This list contains the CLI numbers of
all PPP users. NetWare Connect for ISDN only recognizes PPP clients that
send a D-channel CLI.
If a PPP client is not found in the PPP CLI list, NetWare Connect for ISDN uses
the proprietary AVM protocol, and the PPP client’s connection cannot be es-
tablished.
Authentication Password Assignment
NetWare Connect for ISDN supports PAP and CHAP for the authentication of
remote PPP clients. PAP authentication can be specified for each dial-in in-
terface, i.e. for each ISDN-Controller (command
load nwcicon, “Config-
ure Services / RNSI / Parameters for ISDN-Controllers / NWCI/Expert Config-
uration”.
NetWare Connect for ISDN allows you to configure user names both for local
authentication and for authentication by the remote computer.
l Local Authentication
Before a connection is established between a remote user and NetWare
Connect for ISDN, the remote client’s user name is verified with the
name in the field “Remote User Name”.
l Authentication by the Remote Computer
If the remote computer requires authentication of the LAN, the local us-
er name and password are presented to it for verification.
Please note that NetWare Connect for ISDN always authenticates remote RN-
SI users against NDS or the NetWare bindery in addition to PAP or CHAP. For
this reason the information in the PPP CLI list must match the NDS or bind-
ery user account information exactly.
