Port Configuration
The port configuration determines how NetWare Connect for ISDN allocates
ports when the RNSI service is active. Two configuration options are avail-
able:
Exclusive Port Reservation
This setting specifies that a port and the B channel allocated to it remain re-
served from the time the connection is first established until the logical con-
nection is terminated.
The logical connection between the remote computer and NetWare Connect
for ISDN is maintained even when the physical connection is cleared down
because no data is being transferred (Inactivity Timeout). During this time,
the reserved port is blocked for other remote computers: incoming calls are
rejected.
This setting ensures that a B channel is available whenever the remote com-
puter needs to transfer data again.
On-Demand Port Acquirement
This setting specifies that a port and the B channel allocated to it are not re-
served when the physical connection between the remote computer and
NetWare Connect for ISDN is cleared down due to an inactivity timeout.
This port configuration is more flexible than exclusive port reservation, since
it allows several remote computers to share a B channel.
The disadvantage of this option, however, is that every remote computer
may not always be able to establish the physical connection to NetWare Con-
nect for ISDN at all times, since it may happen that the required B channel is
in use by a different remote computer.
