Remote Node Service for ISDN
Netware Connect for ISDN – 4 Configuration 35
4.2 Remote Node Service for ISDN
Unlike CCS, RNSI is a server-based “listening” application that answers dial-
in connections from outside the LAN. This means that RNSI must be config-
ured on the server. The server module NWCCON includes an RNSI configura-
tion menu for this purpose under “Configure Services”.
A number of options are available to ensure LAN access security and stable
connections.
For a detailed description of the complete RNSI configuration, see the “Net-
Ware Connect for ISDN 2.0 Installation and Administration Guide”, pp. 79–
103.
The following sections contain simple configuration examples for the RNSI
service.
Number Configuration
Appropriate configuration of ISDN numbers for the line to which RNSI is con-
nected is especially important for dial-in remote access to the LAN over
ISDN.
The following examples describe the configuration of ISDN numbers in RNSI
for operation on an ISDN BRI line (Example 1) and on a PBX extension line
(Example 2):
When the services CCS and RNSI are used simultaneously, it is important to
assign the RNSI service a dedicated MSN. The assignment of a separate
MSN permits exact addressing of incoming calls. If RNSI is not assigned a
specific MSN, the service automatically answers all incoming calls with the
service indicator (SI) 7, including calls intended for other CAPI-based data
communication applications.
