NDC Automation
To simplify NDC’s operation for the user, the administrator can set up NDC
so that it automatically starts and logs in to the server, and so that certain
applications are automatically started when NDC is loaded.
Starting NDC Automatically
There are two mechanisms that can be used to load NDC automatically in
Windows 95/98.
Note that the first method described can also be used in Windows NT.
l Autostart
When this option is activated, NDC is automatically started by an appropri-
ate entry in the Windows registry.
l On Login
When this option is activated, NDC is automatically started on each Win-
dows login. Note: This method is recommended only if you are using a CAPI
application which (a) must be loaded automatically as a system service, and
(b) requires that a CAPI interface be present on starting.
Connecting NDC to a Server Automatically
If the option “Automatic Connect” is activated, NDC attempts to reestablish
the last successful connection to a server. The server name, user name and
password needed are stored by default in the Windows Registry.
If you use the option “Automatic Connect” together with the option “On Log-
in” in Windows 95/98, NDC cannot perform a user-specific server login,
since the current user is not yet known at the time of connection. In this
case, the default values for server name, user name and password are
drawn from the Windows Registry. If the Registry does not contain this infor-
mation—i.e., the “default user” has not connected to a server with NDC be-
fore—then the automatic connection attempt ends with an error message,
and the user must enter the login information manually.
