4.2 GSM Operation
If you want to use such services as Internet access, e-
mail, fax and SMS (Short Message Service) with your
computer over the GSM network, then install the CAPI
application FRITZ!GSM supplied with the Controller.
FRITZ!GSM is available for the operating systems Win-
dows 95/98 and Windows NT.
A few steps in the FRITZ!GSM installation procedure are
different from the FRITZ! installation. Please start the
FRITZ!GSM installation from the CD introduction, which
will guide you through the procedure. You can start the
CD introduction by double-clicking on the file INTRO.HLP
in the root folder of the CD-ROM.
The FRITZ!GSM modules FRITZ!fax, FRITZ!data,
FRITZ!com and Address Book are very similar to those of
the FRITZ! software package. Certain FRITZ! options
which do not apply in GSM operation are omitted,
however, such as the settings for “2 channel transfer”,
“PBX extension”, “MSN” etc.
The following section describes the differences in
operation between FRITZ! and FRITZ!GSM and the
modules specific to FRITZ!GSM.
FRITZ!sms
The FRITZ!sms module allows you to send or receive SMS
messages (SMS = Short Message Service) directly on
your computer.
To create a new message, click on the corresponding
button in the tool bar. Then click on the Addressee
button and select the desired addressee for the new
message from the list. This list is an extract of the
FRITZ!GSM Address Book. Now you may type your
message in the text field at the bottom of the FRITZ!sms
window. The message may be up to 160 characters long.
To send the message, click on OK. Messages you have
sent are stored in the “Out-box“.
